The golf digests and such would. Not so much national mainstream outlets anymore.
Even then, unless there was a really famous name involved (typically either someone very young or otherwise well known like Tiger), I can’t remember ever reading/hearing about it before the final match.

That’s modern golf media in a nutshell. Someone not named Woods would have had to shoot 57 in stroke play to get a headline.
That's true, but it's kind of like why the Cowboys play so many nationally televised games no matter how much of a dumpster fire they are. Just following the data.

Anyway, I'm kind of tight with the Maclauchlan family, and Noah is in the final, so yeah, that's a let's ****ing go for me

His younger brother, who was on the bag, won our State Am last year at age 16. Pretty good trophy collection in the Maclauchlan household.

Our guy just smoked the best junior in the world to win the U.S. Junior Am. Simply awesome. Guess I have to do some more reworking of the next magazine issue. Good problem to have!
Was Liberty the best he could do for college? I'm thinking he gets one year there, does okay, then gets some NIL money from an ACC or SEC school.

Couple of things. One, the family is very Christian. Two, he was a bit of a late bloomer. Liberty is actually probably the second program in the state behind UVA. They make a lot about his WAGR, but he was inside the top 30 nationally in AJGA rankings, so this didn’t come totally out of nowhere. But to beat Russell like that? Wow.

Damn, I walked along side Miles Russell for a good six holes at the US Amateur last year, he’s as smooth and silky as they come. Just oozing with talent from the left side. Well done to beat him.

Helluva win for Koivun. That back 9 yesterday was just scorching hot. And today he did what he had to do to win against a charging Scottie Scheffler.

Who knows what happens with this kid. But he certainly showed a lot this week.

Great showing by Koivun. Nailed every putt when things could have gotten tight. Great win. Great player. Looks like a springboard to bigger things.
