"You've got pocket 10s. How should you play 'em? Now imagine you're sitting across from me. Does this change your decision?"

Has anyone else heard this commercial making the rounds of sports talk radio? It's for fulltilt poker, where you can learn from the pros, also including Howard Lederer AND jennifer harmon! Um, yay?

Sorry to say, I doubt even the hardcore poker people could pick Chris Ferguson out of a lineup without buzz at the table and/or a nametag, so no, it wouldn't affect my decision on how to play my "pocket tens."

Please
Do not send them your money

A lot of people who play poker, many who are not hardcore, know who Chris Ferguson is. Jesus.

WHO he is, name association with the activity (is poker a sport?), sure.

But by face identification? Without hints?

"Holy crap, that's Chris Ferguson across the table from me! Better change my decision on how to play these pocket tens!"

Sorry, but I doubt it.

I don't want to be too harsh, but that's idiotic. I'd be willing to say that even some people who don't play poker know who he is.

He is arguably the most recognizable poker pro out there, with the possible exception of Doyle Brunson. Kind of hard to miss the black cowboy hat, long hair and sunglasses.

Um, I play poker all the time and had never heard of him until now. There's a difference between playing poker and sitting in your living room watching other people play it on TV. Why, by the way, do people do that?

Same reason they sit in the living room and watch other people play golf on TV.

Yeah, you'd recognize him.

He looks like George Harrison circa 1969-70.

The point is, I assume, you can learn how to read the other players by buying whatever this Full Tilt thing is. That's the why for the "Now imagine you're sitting across from me. Does this change your decision?"

The selling point is that if you play poker online at Full Tilt, you might find yourself playing against Ferguson because he's one of the investors and pros who play exclusively on that site.

(Full Tilt is also the only Mac compatiable online poker site. Hooray Full Tilt!)

Oh, and if you don't change the way you play your 10s against Ferguson, then you're not a very smart poker player. Not because he's Ferguson, or even because he's a pro. But because every hand you play you need to take into account who your opponent is and how he or she plays.

Pokerroom.com's Java interface works on all major (and many minor) operating systems.

The only question is, would He draw to an inside straight?

Yeah, you'd recognize him.

Sure, if someone told me that was him, with description. Never saw him until then. My first thought was "nice photo of long-haired Sam Elliott."

Thanks for the photo. Definite example of the face not matching the voice at all. Now that commercial makes me laugh, since he sounds all serious in it.
