Will it get any replies?

Edward Lorenz author of the famous paper "Predictability: Does the Flap of a Butterfly's Wings in Brazil Set off a Tornado in Texas?" is dead at 90.

Let the chaos ensue.

Re: If I start an RIP thread...

Never heard of Lorenz or his paper, but RIP nonetheless.

Re: If I start an RIP thread...

Heaven needed the inspiration for a terrible movie starring Ashton Kutcher.

Re: If I start an RIP thread...

Shouldn't it be "a RIP thread", not "an RIP thread." I'll rip you for your bad grammar.

Really? It just reads weird. But, I'll take your word for it. I was wrong and I'm sorry.

I can't claim to have a full grasp on chaos theory, but the guy did do a vital public service: He proved what your grandfather already knew, namely, that the guy on TV trying to predict the weather is utterly and completely full of ****.

I think the rule in writing is, if it comes in front of a vowel sound, it gets "an." If it comes in front of a consonant sound, it gets "a." I could be wrong, though.

No, you are correct. Except in Canada, where is it spelled "eh."

The poor slob dies, and he's honored with a thread about writing "a" or "an" before an "r".

Why would it be "an RIP" then? R is a consonant sound. And don't say it's because R sounds like AHHH...that's a bull**** explanation.

So I was right? I rescind my apology!

And somewhere, a butterfly flaps its wings.

And causes another typo.
