How far do you think you could jog?

Someone on the Boston Marathon thread joked (I think) that he couldn't run two miles in 2 hours and 3 minutes, let alone 26.2 miles in that time.

I remember when I first started running for fitness a few years ago, a mile seemed daunting. In the last year, I've run as far as 15 (not that it is was easy). Not sure how far I could right now, but probably about that.

How far would you be confident jogging?

2 short blocks. No, I'm not kidding.

I got stuck in horrendous traffic yesterday on the way to work. It took me an hour and 10 minutes to go 9.5 miles. The Boston Marathon winners could have run there a lot faster.

Four miles is about my absolute limit, and I'd limp for a month if I pushed myself that far.

I know I can jog 5 miles. Haven't pushed myself farther than that yet, but I'm hoping to run in a big local 10-miler this summer. Gotta start getting more road miles in as the weather warms, though.

I used to jog but the ice cubes kept falling out of my glass.

Well, hopefully 3.1 miles since I'm in a 5K on Saturday!

Seriously, that's about as far as I can handle these days. Although, in the somewhat recent past, I've jogged the first 5 to 5.5 miles of a 7-mile road race before having to walk a block or so.

The key word is "jogged."

To do a marathon in, say, the 3-hour range, you've got to be running like a 7-minute mile ... for 26.2 miles. That's called "running."

I know I can do 5-6 relatively easily. If I pushed myself ... maybe I could add on an extra two and feel like death? Don't know for sure. Maybe I'll find out when the weather gets nicer.

Having done 5 miles yesterday and 5 today in the fourth week of spring training, I know I could go at least 8 miles at a jog before my Achilles would start to *****. Then it's kick the dogs up and beer time.

At this point in my life, I could never do a marathon, just because biomechanically something -- most likely my bad old ankle -- would give well before the finish. There's a standing offer to anyone who hears me suggest that I might try one to just go Jeff Gillooly on my kneecap.

Last time I even tried to jog was about five years ago.

We were having one of those corporate challenge series and were going to play flag football.

I got to the field early and thought I would warm up by taking a lap around the track.

Halfway around, I was on my hands and knees trying to find my lungs.

HALFWAY around the freakin' track.

Damn, you're jogging away from either one of those? You must have the stride length of Usain Bolt.

The most I ever do is about four.

For a different challenge, throw on a backpack. Jog for a minute, walk three. Repeat.

I could probably go 10 at a nice, steady pace, but I'm never that patient.
