Honestly, if he had won, I was going to ask you what my cut was.

I am a bit embarrassed. Last Tuesday, Moderator1 finished 3rd in the 5th race.. ... And to make matters worse, he's not only a better bet than I am, that colt can drink me under the stable.

I bet the favorite, who won by a head.

The Moderator was a minor stakes winner in the 90s.

SJ screen name horses are dominated by soon-to-be two-time champion filly Songbird.
 
The Derby trail has been a cluster so far and got worse this weekend.

Undefeated Mastery won like a good thing in a big prep at Santa Anita, looked to be the clear Derby favorite, and then sustained a fracture in the gallop out after the wire.

Previous favorites Classic Empire and McCraken have also had some physical issues, but they could still make it if they can get on track.

Mastery is done for at least 3-4 months, but could be done for good.

Gee Street never really got a chance to run, stuck behind horses in the final turn, and finished off the board. Oh well.
 
Last night, the news crews were locked out of the park, did their reports from outside a closed game. That has never happened before.
And Santa Anita response was that of all the races, training and workouts, 99.9 percent of the horses didn't die.
That's PR for you.
