Yeah, it's early. It's the first weekend, actually.

But who are you watching for the Heisman?

Here's one guy I keep watching: Pat White, West Virginia quarterback.

He was a game-changer last year, and he's off to a good start already this season. I like him even better than Steve Slaton.

But who do you like? McFadden, Brohm, Booty........who?

Discuss.

So he should be punished because BCS conference schools are scared to play Hawaii? If they'd man up and not play the Boise States and Hawaiis of the world, maybe I'd buy that argument.

and you're right about pat white over slaton... white makes that offense

sat with a d coordinator last year and broke down film on it when i was looking into my heisman vote... white over slaton all day. that's what he said and showed me.

White impresses me every time I watch him.

Loads of talent, and a great leader.

Slaton is great, but White is the guy to watch. That guy knows how to push a team, take over a game, whatever. Knows what it takes to win, then goes out and does it on the field.

Early on, against inferior competition, all the contenders are gonna put up big numbers. Wait until conference play starts and a few of them have bad games, then the front-runners will be more clear.

And SC, if Hawaii were two play a couple BCS schools, Brennan likely would have no shot at the Heisman because his numbers would be way down from what he puts up against whoever the hell Hawaii plays regularly.

Ahhhh, I think if Brennan would play a coupla BCS schools, his numbers still would be pretty damn good.

Gimmick offenses make a Heisman? I don't think it's any coincidence that the same years that Andre Ware was starring for Houston, Colt Brennan was born and beginning his ascent to Andre Ware-redux.

The only reason Brennan is even in this conversation is because he puts up inflated numbers against inferior competition. He may turn out to be a great QB, but he couldn't shred the defenses of the top teams because Hawaii doesn't have near the talent to compete with the big boys.

As for throwing TDs, McFadden got off a to a good start with about 160 rushing, a score and a long TD pass.

Stop ruining my argument, dammit!!!!!

And Brennan finished fifth last year, so I guess somebody didn't find his stats so "inflated."

Brennan's basically a system QB. Any halfway talented passer's gonna rack up crazy numbers in June Jones' offense. Brennan's predecessor, Timmy Chang, also shattered all sorts of passing records and he's now struggling in Canada after failing to make an NFL roster.

Chang/Brennan is reminiscent of the mass overhyping of Andre Ware/David Klinger after they rang up those crazy numbers in that Houston run n shoot offense only to discover neither could play when they got to the pros.

A former NFL defensive coordinator told me last week that Brennan is a first-round draft pick next year, no question. ... If that's the case, I'd hardly classify him as a system quarterback.

i didn't vote for brennan last year, but i did consider him and look into his numbers, and i remember a red flag in there, but not sure i remember what it was...

i tried to watch them a bit, too. i watched a lot of those late-night games because i was a voter last season. hell, if anything, i had a west-coast bias, because so often those were the only games i got to see

Klinger and Ande Ware were first-round picks.

EDIT: IU90 beat me to it.

Ware and Klingler did it in what was a major conference, not a weak WAC. At the time Ware and Klingler were putting up huge numbers, they were doing it against Texas, Texas A&M, Arkansas and Texas Tech. In fact, Houston beat Texas 60-40 in 1987, 66-15 in 1988 in Austin and 47-9 in 1989.
By the way, if you're looking for a darkhorse Heisman candidate, check out what Houston RB Anthony Alridge did against Oregon on Saturday: 205 rushing and 88 receiving. This is the same guy that led the nation last year at 10.1 yards per carry. And this comes in an offense that's focused on throwing.

Give and take with Brennan;

His numbers border on stupid.....for example tonight;

34-40...416 yards.......6 Touchdowns (Give)

IN THE FIRST ****ING HALF (Much give)

Up 42-0 (Much give)

Against Northern Colorado. (Much much take)
