HEISMAN: Troy's Myth

Ok first off I am a Notre Dame fanatic, Ive been raised to worship the Irish. My family has gone as far to put a "Play Like a Champion Today" sign on are door we must slap before we enter my basement. Brady Quinn is an amazing player who I feel will have a great professional career but the Heisman should go to Troy Smith. I have a tremendous amount of respect for him.

That was the hardest thing I have ever said.....

Last I checked, Ben Roethlisberger, Tom Brady and Trent Dilfer didn't have MVP awards to their name, so I know it's possible for the nation's best player in a sport not to come from the best team in the country.

And actually, come to think of it, maybe that's why I haven't been sold on Smith this season. He compares closer to Roethlisberger, Brady and Dilfer -- the college version, of course -- in their Super Bowl seasons than he does Michael Vick, circa 1999. He manages and win games. Nothing wrong with that, that's what quarterbacks are supposed to do. I just don't know whether that means he's the best player in the country, like Heisman voters once deemed Gino Torretta to be under very similar circumstances.

I disagree with the first part of your statement there, as I have all through this thread, but Smith absolutely locked up the Heisman today.

Ball State passed all over that defense, too. Michigan's been exposed some this month.

And then he put the first team back in, and Ball State moved the ball at will. Had it not been for a flagrant pass interference that officials ignored on that fourth-and-goal play, Ball State lines up for the two-point conversion and the tie at The Big House.

Based on yards allowed? Perhaps. But there were at least nine future NFL draft picks on the field most of the day for Michigan on defense today. At least. Find me the defenses throughout history that can say that. I'll hang up and listen.

Junkie: Michigan's front four is incredible. But front to back the '97 defense was better. This secondary is so-so and it showed today. No Woodson in that bunch to be sure.

Ohio State is that ****ing good on offense. I'm ok with that. I'm not sure why nobody else is.

I'm not trying to take anything away from what Ohio State did. That was an amazing offensive display against a tremendous defense. I just don't see how you put a unit with such a mediocre secondary and say it is up there all time.

They tore up one of the top defenses in college football season this season, maybe the best. That's enough.
