Re: Huckabee won't run

I believe that opens the door for someone else to finish a distant third in the race for the nomination.

Re: Huckabee won't run

Does this make Rick "Google Problem" Santorum the favorite of the GOP base's evangelical bloc? I know he's Catholic, but I don't think that's nearly the liability among evangelicals that it once was. Especially since the evangelicals don't exactly have a lot of options now.

Re: Huckabee won't run

At this rate Obama is going to run unopposed.

I think Huckabee learned how to bail out of the presidential campaign when he played for Nolan Richardson.

Re: Huckabee won't run

Looking more and more like Mitch Daniel is going to be the frontrunner.

Man, y'all don't let up. :D

Mitch Daniels hasn't even entered the race yet.

Besides, he's almost as dull as Tim Pawlenty, and a lot more unsightly. And unlike Pawlenty, Daniels has a significant albatross - he was the budget director under Bush II. Doesn't necessarily mean he was actually responsible for the economic collapse (or even partially responsible), but it still makes for a plausible line of attack.

At the very least, being such a prominent figure in another Presidential administration means that Daniels is hardly a Washington outsider. And the electorate - Republican and otherwise - is not exactly happy with Washington right now.

Re: Huckabee won't run

Mike Huckabee let a man, who then went on to kill four police officers, out of prison.

The fact that didn't kill his political career is mindboggling.

Re: Huckabee won't run

Michael Dukakis, meet Willie Horton. Goes both ways.

As much as I suspected this would happen, I'm still disappointed. Huckabee supports a "fair tax" option that I think would be the answer for stimulating future economic development. With him sitting on the sidelines, I have a feeling we'll lose that option.

Re: Huckabee won't run

So much for that dream. President Huckabee was sounding good to me, but I knew deep down he wasn't going to run. I guess he just doesn't want to be president anymore, since I don't think he'll ever have a better chance.

Sounds like hell to me, but different strokes, etc.

I assume by better chance, you mean better chance to get his ass kicked by an incumbent with a 60% approval rating.

Huckabee's realized what every other legitimate GOP candidate (if that's not an oxymoron) save Mittens will realize: This is an audition for the role of Bob Dole.

Re: Huckabee won't run

I think the "grownup" Republicans may sit this one out, let the cuckoo birds take the fall next year, then run in the wide-open 2016 field.

The Dems are grooming nobody.

Hucky will be 61 in '16, a veritable toddler by GOP standards. Mitt will be 69, prime age.

They could run a Mitt-Huck ticket in 2016 and after 8 years, Huck would be ready to go in 2024.

Re: Huckabee won't run

Aw, I sort of liked Huckabee. There are a lot of nuttier types out there. But any word on Mitt Romney?

Re: Huckabee won't run

Huck would accept a draft, but only if he didn't have to do any campaign-contribution begging. And that's not the way it works.

He'll still look to screw Mitt any way he can.
