I have no problem with most of Glavine's tenure in New York, Buck.
His performance is his final three starts this past September was pathetic.
His 7-run first in the final game of the season followed by a shrug of the shoulders was amateurish.

re: his response

The only time I have ever seen him react differently after a start was a) when he won his 300th; and b) when he won the clinching game of the World Series. He reacts stoically after almost every win, and definitely after every loss. He's been that way for 20 years.

So whether he threw 7 shutout innings in the final game or whether he got yanked after 1/3 of an inning ... he was going to react the same way. I don't think that's amateurish at all.

When your team has one desoparate shot to tie for the division on the last day of the season and you -- the would-be leader of the staff -- give up 7 runs in 1/3 of an nning, the response should be more than "I'm disappointed, we're all disappointed,"
At least have the balls so say "I sucked when the team needed me, I let this team down and I'm to blame for the loss."

And 2 days later, on his final paid weekly spot with Russo and Francesa when they got on him about it, his reply was "Well, I pitched a lot of good games that I didn't get a win, so it all balances out."

Good-bye, Tommy.

Fair enough. I will end with this:

I'm very happy he's back on my team and not on your team. I really ****ing hated rooting for your team every fifth day. ;D

Now you know how I felt in 2002 and 2003 when Matt Franco had an ugly "A" on his cap.

For some reason, Buck, there is a smalll contingent of very sick Mets fans who love Matt Franco. I believe it had to do with one hit off Mariano Rivera that beat the Yankees in the 9th inning in like 1999.

... as is a co-worker of mine who calls it one of the greatest moments in Mets history! ::)

You, as a Mets fan, felt the same way about Matt ****ing Franco as I, as a Braves fan, felt about Tom Glavine? Oh, I hope for your sake that's not true. :D

I wish it were true. I loved the guy coming off the bench in the eighth and ninth inning, but not to that extreme. I did hate seeing him in a Braves' uniform, but it was nothing like seeing Hundley in a Cubs' uniform or David Cone in a Yankees' uniform.

... and I have no doubt believing Mike is one of them.

I'll never forget the absolute gem Dave Mlicki tossed at the Yankees in 1997 -- a 6-0 shutout. That was a great game in Mets history, in my opinion.

As a reformed fanboi, let me tell you that moment was ****ing outrageous.

I mean, c'mon SP, you of all people should understand why that moment has forever endeared Franco to Mets fans. Matt Franco? With a game-winning pinch-hit two-run single off Mariano Rivera? And frogs didn't fall from the sky immediately afterward?

It'd be like me getting a date with Jessica Alba and rounding the bases. No, it does not mean I can have sex with Jessica Alba all the time, or even some of the time, or even more than once. But for one day, I did have sex with her. And you look at me and go "You know what he's a looser, but there was that time he hooked up with Jessica Alba, and for that I must admire him."

It's like that with Mets fans and Matt Franco. Or so I've heard.

I'll never forget the absolute gem Rey Ordonez turned in a completing a double play in the third inning against the Yankees in 1997. That was a great game in Mets history, in my opinion.

That's a damn good analogy and explanation.

Ordonez was good in his day, and I'm sure the double play was fantastic, too.

I assume this was a regular-season game? I can't remember it.
