Funniest Comedian

I've tried to find bootlegs some of Chappelle's more recent stuff and have mostly had no luck in finding good quality recordings. The stuff I did listen to that was halfway audible wasn't anywhere near as good as his early work.

As for Sirius/XM, they did a bit the other day where they claimed to have banned Neil Hamburger from the channel. The show hosts gave him a platform and let him take calls from people who agreed with the ban. It was hilarious.

Neil Hamburger (Gregg Turkington) is the Funniest Comedian! He could teach Dave Chapelle a thing or two about dealing with hecklers.

At the Camden show security was vigilant about keeping anyone from recording anything during Chappelle's set. There were signs everywhere saying you couldn't even talk or text on the phone when performances were going on, but they only enforced it while Chappelle was on.

I don't think the "humorous lecture" or "talking about their life" is that uncommon with some comedians who get super famous. I've seen Cosby a few times and while the first couple times during the first season or two of the Cosby Show was still a regular comedy act, the last time I saw him I don't know if he told anything that resembled a joke.

Ansari's last two specials have been really good. I'm pretty sure he has a new one coming out really soon.

So will that be a comedy special, or a continuation of his lecture series on living in the modern world?

I watched both of his specials... They didn't seem like a lecture series to me... He tells a very funny story about meeting Kanye, not sure that turns him into Kathy Griffin.

If Kathy Griffin never said another word about anything the world would be a better place. She was never funny.

A comic says funny things. A comedian says things funny.

I'd say that distinction has been lost, but clearly Ansari falls into the category of standup comic/comedian.

I was at the Comedy Cellar over a decade ago and Colin Quinn was trying out some stuff and at the end of the set he told the story about how he turned down the Seth Green part in Austin Powers so he could write "Celtic Pride"

I don't know if he had ever told the story before, but the other comics were out there and were just laughing so hard. It was basically, "This is how ****ing stupid I am..." I don't think it was ever part of his act, but holy **** was it funny and not something that you hear people talk about every day.

It was like a 20-minute story and the whole place was in tears from laughing so hard by the time he was done. It was the funniest moment of the night and that was saying something since Norton, Vos and O'Neal had gone on before him.

As far as long, one-shot bits go, I think the funniest I've heard in recent years is Larry Miller on skiing. It's about 30 minutes long, and it is fall-down hilarious. Comedy Central was running that standup show a few times.

Yeah, that one has been making the rounds for years. They still talk about that on the podcasts.

I'd never seen it before.

I watched the show quite a bit when it was on, but I was not an avid fan.
It often was repetitive.
And you could tell when the panelists hadn't prepared at all. The Splitsider piece touts that as a positive element of the show, and I'm sure it was a big part of the chemistry and spontaneity. It also caused more misses than hits. Geraldo was great on that show because he prepped. It's a current events show; you've got to be on the topics for it to work at it's best.

If you took the same concept today with a group of comics who were prepping for the show regulary I think it would be a hit.
Then again, people are outraged by Esquire's website mistake and a Wisconsin golf special. The show probably wouldn't work now, either.

I'm a total comedy geek.

At a friend's bachelor party probably in the late 1990s or so, we went to see Andrew Dice Clay in Las Vegas. It was a high school friend and this was back in the late 80s early 90s when Dice was at his peak and everybody was going around quoting the nursery rhymes.

Jim Norton opened for Dice. When we left the show, we all couldn't stop talking about how great Norton was. Dice almost became an afterthought. I've seen Norton at actual shows probably 5-6 times and countless other times at the Comedy Cellar when I was traveling to NY on a regular basis. I was so pissed that the tour with Norton, Attell, Artie Lange, Amy Schumer never came to my state.

Almost everyone who was on Tough Crowd were Comedy Cellar regulars... Keith Robinson, Colin, Norton, Vos, Patrice, Giraldo...

I had never seen Tough Crowd before. I watched some clips and enjoyed it well enough. The Brits do it better with Mock The Week.
