Wisconsin has let go of its offensive line coach - Mike Markuson - after 2 games, according to a number of reports.

Can anyone recall a football coach - head or assistant - being fired so quickly?

Jack Crowe, Head Coach at Arkansas in 1992 after they lost their opener to The Citadel.

The OC at Houston just last week after they lost their opener to Texas State - though technically he "resigned."

I believe George Allen was fired by the Los Angeles Rams after two exhibition games in 1978.

Raheem Morris got rid of OC Jeff Jagodzinski in pre-season. Todd Hailey fired Chan Gailey as OC of the Chiefs in pre-season.

Especially noteworthy as most University of Wisconsin employees have to do something along the levels of murdering puppies with an axe in the middle of campus to get terminated.

I figure he'll still get paid, maybe reassigned. Makes sense though, Markuson was hired just this year after hanging with Houston Nutt for the last 20 years or so.
He was one of six new coaches for Wisconsin this year. Three left with Chryst.

The Steelers fired their special teams coordinator two games into the preseason this year, though he had been on staff since 2010.

Crowe coached the 1990 and 1991 seasons at Arkansas after Hatfield left.

And one game in 1992.

Crowe was already on the hot seat in '91 as the offense was atrocious and every SWC team not named Rice kicked Arkanpig's butt on their way to the SEC. It was a humiliating last year in the conference.

Usually, it has more to do with someone who is unwilling to change or a personality conflict than actually being fired for the normal reasons coaches are fired.

SJ Fav Mike Price was fired before he even coached a game at Alabama.

Actually it was '90 when they got rolled by almost everybody (including Rice). Their only conference win was over SMU.

In '91 they moved all their sports to the SEC except football and finished 6-6 (4-3 in the SWC), including a loss to Georgia in the Independence Bowl. They started SEC footbal play in '92 but Crowe never got the chance to coach an SEC game.

Gene Chizik just rapid-clicked the hell outta this thread to see who you were talking about.

So did Jon Embree and John L. Smith.

John L. Smith couldn't click until slapping the hell outta himself first.

John L. Smith is lucky that Frank Broyles is no longer AD at Arkansas.

But, yeah, firing a coach at that point in the season is silly. Shows you didn't work out whatever issues there were before the season started in the first place.

I covered a HS game on Friday in Colorado and Bobby Petrino was on the sidelines. I talked to him, he said he was just watching for fun and that his friend was one of the visiting team's coaches. Maybe Arkansas should take him back.
