On average, how much sleep do you get?

Last night was probably the first dream I've remembered in about a year. I never remember them. Probably has to do with my sleep, but maybe not.

Seven hours' sleep is about perfect for me, I think. Any more than that, and I'm exhausted. Any less than that, and I can function on adrenaline for a day or two but I better make up for it soon after.

Usually get to bed around 3-4-5 a.m., but lately I haven't been waking up 'til around noon, which isn't good for me.

Oh man, the cell goes on vibrate all the time. And if I have it laying on my floor (my bed isn't that high off) I don't hear anything.

I suppose it depends on the gig. I, for the most part, am always available.
I have it set for standby mode for the middle of the night, but "IT" wakes up sometimes before I do.

I hardly sleep at all. Insomnia is the bane of my existence and has been my entire adult life. I am Jack's somnolent dysfunction.

Since I started having to get up around 6, I now get much more sleep since I make sure I'm in bed by 10. Before, I'd get to sleep around 3 or so, getting about 5-6 hours of sleep if I was lucky. Usually 7-8 hours now.

I've always had trouble falling asleep, no matter how tired I am. But once I go down, I have no trouble staying asleep eight hours, which is what I aim for.

As I've gotten older, I've come to accept that I need more sleep than the average joe. I'm pretty much a mess without anything less an eight hours. But I really need close to 10-11 hours a day.

In college, this wasn't a problem because I could take naps to catch up. Nowadays I'm forced to drink more coffee and catch up on my days off. Luckily I work four days per week.

I quote the late, great Warren Zevon: I'll sleep when I'm dead.

Normally, I get about 6.5 to 7.5 hours a night. This week, I've been averaging about 5.5 to 6 because I've been covering a trial AND I covered a women's basketball game Thursday night right after posting a quick story about the trial on our Web site.

So yeah, I haven't been getting much sleep of late.

I can go exactly one (1) day with very little sleep. After that, the train runs off the tracks and I flirt dangerously with psychosis.

I greatly envy people who can sleep just a few hours, snap out of bed and be good to go. I could get so much done that way. But as it is, I feel like I need to sleep constantly. I work out, I avoid caffeine at night, yet no matter what, I'm up until at least 2 a.m. and can easily sleep 10 hours if I don't force myself to wake up.

The worst thing lately has been my dreams. Good or bad, my dreams at least have been interesting. Now they're just literal. Yesterday, a friend of mine called me and said "We need to get together and go out drinking one of these nights." So later that night, I had a dream about getting together with that friend and going out drinking.

I can't comprehend how some of you sleep on less than eight hours. I average nine or 10 hours every night.

Four hours on most days, six on good days. Whether it's actually quality sleep is another matter altogether.

Noisy frogs, noisy neighbors and noisy housemates do not make for a great sleeping environment.

Actually, I think you snore less during deep sleep. I think deep sleep is when you start shallowly breathing. I've woken up during deep sleep a couple of times and while going back to sleep I feel like I'm dying because I can't take a shallow breath, my body won't move and my brain is awake enough to know what the hell is going on.

It's not a fun feeling.

Oh my God. I HATE that. That ****s me up too. Except it happens when I'm coming out of a deep sleep. Always happens when I'm on my side too. I'll be awake, but I can't move, and I'll hear myself breathing and know what's going on around me. And I can't move. I try to jar my legs loose, nothing happens. Try to jar my arms loose, nothing. Try to roll over, all I do is stir ever so slightly. Then I grit my teeth and force myself to roll over, and I lay there, heart pounding, staring at the ceiling.

It's probably only 5-10 seconds, but it feels like forever.

As for the question, I can get by on four hours of sleep and roll all day long. But give me an open day and I'll ****ing sleep it away. I could sleep 12 hours a night, every night. Which, you know, sucks when you don't go to bed til 6 am.

My problem is when I get six hours or so. Then I almost always need a nap in the middle of the day. Less than that though and it's like the adrenaline kicks in.

I looooooove sleep. I need 8-9 hours each night to feel normal.

And I'm totally a night owl. No matter how much sleep I get, I'm totally drowsy between 3-7 p.m. And even if I haven't slept for 18 hours, I'm totally awake between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m.

People know not to **** with my sleep. I have my parents, who still don't understand why I have to work Saturdays, trained to never call before noon. And sleep is my answer for everything: sadness, boredom, anger, embarrassment, illness, travel.

Those who were in Vegas know that I can sleep through anything. Except having my feet covered by the blanket. (Hi, Joe!)

Me too. I refuse to go to sleep before 1 am. I honestly haven't gone to bed before 1 am since high school. There was a period, when I was working 9 to 5 at a magazine, where I'd go to bed at 1:30 every night. That was a long time ago though.

Since then, the closest I've come to going to bed before 1 am was last fall, when I was up for 30-odd straight hours on a deadline and a complete ****ing zombie by 9 pm on a Friday night. I mean, I was so tired, it was like I was having an out of body experience. I would drink soda and hope it didn't dribble out of my mouth. I ordered dinner around 9, hoping for that second wind, but even that didn't work. Finally, at like 10:30, I said to my wife "wake me up in half an hour" and rolled over on the recliner.

She said "Why don't you just go to bed?" I said "I can't! It's not 1 am yet!"

It took me days to recover from that one.

Sam, are you Dreaming While You Sleep? Should we play Unquiet Slumber for the Sleepers? Scenes from a Night's Dream?

I believe I would function better if days were 30 hours long. I would sleep for 10 and be awake for 20.
I have issues with inertia. When I'm at rest, I want to stay at rest and when I'm moving, I want to stay moving.

6-8 hrs. I usually go to bed pretty late. When I wake up depends on what I need to to the next day /if my body will allow me to sleep that much.
