This is Friday's strip. In 2010.

maybe, in these tough economic times, Dennis's family couldn't afford that pool membership anymore and he was desperate?

The message of the strip is twofold:

1. Homosexuality is not a choice.
2. Mr. Wilson is a pedophile.

Reverse the roles, then you got problems.

Mr. Wilson knows Dennis is always over at his house nosing around. It looks like he left the door open; certainly it was unlocked. Looks like a classic case of luring Dennis in.

Hank Ketcham may be long-dead, but his Orange County fantasy
world rolls on.

Rejected caption: "Mr. Wilson has some sunken treasure at the bottom of the tub for you, Dennis."

Awesome. Totally awesome.
Also, check out that wallpaper. Obviously Dennis is Mr. Wilson's pool boy on an European vacation.

Shower curtain.

Dennis, and Mr. Wilson in the tub. Elmo and Dagwood Bumstead, with Dag in the tub. Somethin' funny going on in the funny pages. And who takes a bath anymore?

Dag's been taking baths for close to ninety years, now. It's part and parcel of the prevailing schtick, including raiding the fridge for a sandwich in the middle
of the night, naps on the living room couch, and running into folks as he races out of the house, looking to make time on his way to work.
