Could Jeff Novitzky be under fire?

Bonds Probe Drags

June 12, 2007
San Francisco Chronicle

Bonds' attorney, Michael Rains, said Monday that he
hoped to receive clarity from Schools within the next
two weeks about the government's intentions. If the
situation dragged on, Rains suggested he would go
public soon with new information he said he has
discussed privately with the U.S. attorney.

Rains said he began corresponding by mail with Schools
in early May, sending three letters -- including one
on Monday -- and receiving two responses from the U.S.
attorney. Rains declined to discuss the content of the
letters.

"I can tell you that I am sending him information that
I don't think he was aware of before my first letter
came to him," said Rains. "I think it was a new
revelation that he wasn't aware of, but that he needed
to be aware of, and I think if he takes it
appropriately and seriously, it will at least perhaps
cause the federal government to rethink the path
they've been heading down here."

Do you think politics may be more profitable than sports journalism?

It would certainly reward your message discipline much more.

And likely find a much more interested audience, as well.

Do I have to remind everyone that if they're not interested in the thread they don't have to click on it, or even going past that, read it? The only thing more predictable than what creamora posts, which to his credit is at least suitable and of interest on this board, is the knee-jerk reactions from some of you afterwards. We get how you guys feel. Really.

Oh, I know. I was just fascinated that the cell phone icon was not appearing this time. As for the substance, most of us can easily pass the carcass of this dead horse without stopping to stare.

That's an awful lot to read into those few paragraphs, Creamora. However, the grand jury is up in a few weeks so it will be interesting to see if anything more comes of it.

I thought the thread title was about Dirk "Novitsky" and I said to myself, "Well, duh!"

Don't feel bad. I'm sure more than you and I thought the same thing. At least we're men enough to admit it. :D

Cranberry,

There were quotes by Michael Rains in the Washington Post on Saturday and again in the Chronicle today referencing some information that he has provided to the government over the last two months. I'm simply providing a heads up regarding the content of the information he may have shared. Did you also note that Kevin Ryan recently stated that the end of the probe may be near. Ya think there might be a connection? Ya think there may be people who know about the information that Rains has been making referernce to in his recent public statements? It seems that Rains is certainly attempting to provide a hint.

Asking you this because I respect your opinion: Do you really think this is a dead horse?

Not directed at Dooley, but a year ago everyone is crying that the media turned its acne'd back on this story. Now it's a dead issue? No interest? I get that creamora only posts on this subject, so what? He obviously has extensive knowledge of it.

Seems to me this whole story is so far from dead...in a way we've barely scratched the surface.

I thought the dead horse he was talking about was creamora. Maybe I was wrong.

What I mean: No one is changing anybody's mind about Bonds at this point, so people are glossing over Bonds coverage and the media is barely covering the home run chase. It's been settled that Aaron won't be there and Selig won't do the honors even if he's there. People are just burned out on all things Bonds.

And I think that's carrying over to the peripheral issues: Giambi, Balco, the batboy, the Mitchell probe. Granted, a lot of the reason why there aren't giant hedlines all over the place about this is that there's a lot of incremental process and redacted names at the moment. If the redactations get lifted, then interest could pick up again. Could

I think that people are tired of talking about the "steroid era" and will yawn when Bonds breaks the mark, then move on with life.

Novitzky may have some skeletons in his closet that at some point may become public knowledge. He and a couple of other IRS agents may be subjects of an internal investigation involving investigative misconduct. A part of it may involve some evidence which disappeared. There may be documents from this internal investigation in the possession of a few lawyers. These documents may not be under seal. here may be a lot more to this intriguing story.

The Big Ragu may possibly be able to provide more on this story. It seems as though he knows almost everything.

Nope. I know nothing about it. Sorry.

Do you have evidence of any of this or is it the same old sophistry from you? If you have evidence or proof we're all listening... you know, something tangible and persuasive, like the evidence Novitsky came up with in a series of raids in 2003 that Bonds had received banned drugs from BALCO, including Greg Anderson's detailed doping calendars that documented Bonds' use.

Yep.

As Irvin once said, "Don't lose the intensity" when the story goes where you don't want it to go. If Novitsky is guilty of misconduct, I hope he gets nailed to the wall. That would be some irony. The guy obsessed with Bonds ends up legally tripping himself and only serves to show that their is no legal case against Bonds.

We'll have to wait and see how the next chapter unfolds.
