Both games are on the WWL, so one of them would have had to be sent somewhere else. Guess ABC coulda picked Sugar up. It used to carry it.

They barely let the bowls conflict with each other aside from the first Saturday and the bookend days around New Year’s. They’d rather have a game at 2 pm on a weekday than another game you can flip to at night on ESPN2 (home to the artist formerly known as the Outback Bowl and nothing else.) But all it takes is one blowout and there’s no game worth watching for the next three hours, or possibly until tomorrow.

I don't know if any of the survivors are still alive, but I know that having them in the ceremony at Pearl Harbor was discontinued a few years ago because almost all of the dwindling band just couldn't make the trip.
