they pretty much do... i flew ryanair from LGW to DUB last year and the actual ticket cost 2.5 pounds each. That's confirmed.

Tack on the fees and everything else, I ended up paying around 79 dollars each (ridiculous, yes).

The flight was fine, but no frills for sure. got a kick out of the attendants hardselling lotto tix and the like.

You can avoid the fees if you work at it, but it's not easy. The debit/credit card fees are the most obnoxious. £5 per segment, which the EU says has to be included in the fare if it's unavoidable. So RyanAir makes it free for holders of one particular type of card that virtually no one has. I think it's a MasterCard prepaid debit card or some such now.

It's not comfortable, the selling is annoying and they tend to use airports in the middle of nowhere. But the price is damn good. There's a £9.99 fare sale on now, and that's high. Usually the sales are £5.

And ByDesign - I get your point and here is how I cope - I went from a guy who regularly logged hundreds of thousands of air miles annually to a guy who drives anything reasonable and relies a lot more on e-mail, teleconferencing and even videoconferencing and only fly if I absolutely have to because it is such a pain in the ass.

And that is the problem with the airline industry - they've made it almost impossible to want to fly.

Further, the whole a la carte **** is false advertising in my book -- don't tell me that my flight costs more than someone elses because I have some bags and they don't and don't tell me the flight costs $200 roundtrip when it is really $260 because I have to check a bag both ways.

Just charge me $260 and let me get on with my life.

Airline A offers a route for 200 and no bag fees; Airline B offers same routing for 150 with $25/bag each way.

Same price? No to a consumer that is looking at a travel site. They're going with B because it seems like a better deal even if it's the same.

So A does the same thing. It's how we got here.
