This is the last thing newspapers want to hear, but another major national advertiser might be going under. Circuit City's liquidating the rest of its stores, with about 35,000 put out of work.

I'd link up, but MSNBC doesn't have an active link yet.

Ouch. I preferred Best Buy, but this still sucks for papers that have CC as an advertiser.

Re: Breaking: Circuit City going under?

Which is everyone, right? CC was consistent as anything with their Sunday circulars.

Epic fail.

Re: Breaking: Circuit City going under?

****. Sucks for many, many reasons. 35,000 people out of work. Damn.

Not much there now, but Circuit City is a Richmond-based company, so they'll probably update throughout the day.

Was about to post this.

ATLANTA (Reuters) – Retailer Circuit City Stores (CCTYQ.PK) will be fully liquidated, the CNBC cable network reported on Friday, citing a source,

Circuit City was due to present the results of an auction for its assets at a hearing in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Richmond, Virginia, on Friday. It had conducted negotiations with potential bidders to sell the company, but told the court last week it may need to liquidate if no deal was reached.

Re: Breaking: Circuit City going under?

Does this mean we should all run out and buy plasma TV's at 75 percent off?

Re: Breaking: Circuit City going under?

No apostrophe needed to make something plural, Zag.

One of the first stores to close (in the first round of cuts) was near me. Once they sold off all the merchandise, they started selling everything else. The displays, shelving, carts, even the fire extinguishers were on sale. Quite fascinating, in a really sad way.

Re: Breaking: Circuit City going under?

Delete the question mark from the slug. Circuit City has confirmed that it is liquidating.

Circuit City Stores Inc. says it has reached an agreement with liquidators to sell the merchandise in its 567 U.S. stores after failing to find a buyer or a refinancing deal.

The second-biggest electronics retailer in the nation says in court papers it has appointed Great American Group LLC, Hudson Capital Partners LLC, SB Capital Group LLC and Tiger Capital Group LLC as liquidators.

There's a Circuit City vertical banner ad to the right of this thread. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Ha ha.

How deep were the discounts?

I feel bad for all the people who are about to be out of work.

But I did need to buy a new TV before the digital switch. Circuit City, here I come.

I feel bad for the people who bought things that are under warranty from Circuit City.

We're in the market for a 32 inch LCD... looks like this is our chance.. however, this news is so bad it both blows and sucks.
