Conan's show tends to get guests who have even less interest in talking than Jimmy Kimmel's do.

And Conan can't bring himself to be mile-wide, inch-deep superficial like Fallon.

That's too bad. His bits on his shows were almost always great. He was great with guests like Norm and Louis, but meh with celebrities.
I want him to keep on working, but I don't know what he would do. He tried producing a few shows, but those never took off.

Agreed that his bits are the best part of the show, which is why I think it could work in a weekly format. One guest for 30 minutes, surrounded by monologue, skits and bits. When he gets together with Kevin Hart, it's gold. That's the type of stuff he should be doing. Field pieces with the person he'll interview that week.

Conan has been on the late-night scene for 23 years but he just never was able to obtain that broader appeal. Loved watching him with about 4 beers in me in college when he started out in 1993 but he never seemed to evolve from his "everyman who was plucked out of obscurity and got a show" mode.

If he would have pulled in ratings in the Tonight Show after Leno, NBC would have kept him. He just didn't.

He's blueberry crisp. I like blueberry crisp. Most people, though, like vanilla ice cream.

The defense of Conan on the Tonight Show was Jay's 10 PM show blew, which led to poor 11 PM local news ratings and that poor lead in hurt Conan. I don't understand the lead in theory when people have remotes, but the affiliates were up in arms over Leno. All this from Bill Carter's book. Another idea was that Leno's show spoiled The Tonight Show monologue and the show in general.

I want to believe all that because I like Conan and he got screwed in some part by Leno's presence. However, I have to admit I don't think Conan could ever be a big hit at 11:30. NBC certainly believed that when it gave Leno that show so he wouldn't end up competing with Conan.

Whoever thought it was a good idea to fill three hours of prime time every ******* night with reruns of a mediocre sitcom that's still on the air needs to be fired.

Did they just punt on original prime time programming? Or, even just a variety of reruns? Or, should it just rename itself the Big Bang Theory Channel?

Conan has the type of comedy mind that is much better suited to developing and staging an occasional show. Monthly might even be too much. Get a two or three times a year 90 minute spot on HBO and just kill. Use the George Carlin-Chris Rock model. I know he's not a standup, but he'd be much better that way than just another talk show. Too many of those already.

TBS has some really good original programming, but I wouldn't be surprised if none of it does as well in ratings as Big Bang Theory and Seinfeld reruns.

There are some stations that make more money off Big Bang than off the evening newscast that proceeds it. Even top rated stations. It's puzzling but it happens.
