BCS is out....

When I saw the title of this thread I was thinking something else, as in like a headline in June would have said "Willie Randolph is out."

One can hope, anyway.

I wouldn't assume that. And the point is not if there are 16 teams with solid title hopes. The point is the possibility of a George Mason equivalent.
No, the purpose is not to find a feel-good story; it is to determine the best team.

Agree to disagree. Hoosiers wouldn't have been an iconic movie otherwise. More to the point, there'd be no postseason if we didn't want at least a chance of seeing a supposedly superior team being outdone.

Think of it... look at East Carolina's start... something like that happens at the end and you're talking semifinals...

I just don't like the idea of too many games, which is where you'd be with 12 in the regular season, a conference title game and then four more in the playoffs.

And it'd be a thing of beauty.

Your chances of it happening in football are far, far less than in basketball. You only have to get 8-10 good players together in one place to make it happen in basketball.

But they made a helluva run that was the story of the spring. But then, I'm pretty sure you knew that was the point.

no, dools, i promise i'm not contrary with you just to be contrary ... promise. maybe others, but not you. i disagree with you because i disagree with you.

football is a different beast than hoops. we don't have time for another eight weeks of football come jan. 1. as far as college football is concerned: just give me a true national ****ing champ. that's it. i don't want any cute geo. mason stories in FB. i simply want a winner.

Anyone else confused that the computer ranked Ohio State 5th and USC 10th? Does head to head not matter?

So wait, let me get this straight. The point is not to find a feel-good story, it's to make it so that the best team wins a championship?

Oh, ok.

In that case, I'd like the NFL to redo the Super Bowl structure. Screw the playoffs. As a Pats fan, that means my favorite team will have only had to beat Indianapolis each of the last five years to win the title. I'm sure Steeler fans wouldn't have a problem with that, right?

Also, what's this nonsense about how a 16-team playoff would include too many teams that shouldn't be in? If I'm not mistaken, aren't there, oh, close to 150 teams in D-I? Couldn't that use some skimming?

i'm willing to discuss the 16-team playoff structure with dools, but you have no points, therefore i dismiss you.

Fixed.

try reading, genius. look up five posts and you'll see: "no, dools, i promise i'm not contrary with you just to be contrary ... promise. maybe others, but not you. i disagree with you because i disagree with you."

my point is reinforced.

How can you have a true national ****ing champ when teams can go undefeated and not make the national title game?

is there a need for more than a four-team playoff? really? at the end of the year, there might be three, maybe four teams that deserve a shot at the title.

dools has real reasons to discuss 16. you simply are 22 and have zero basis for your groundwork. you just think 16 would be neat.

what did that coach say to you again?

I never said I wanted a 16-team playoff. I said I wanted a playoff. 16, 12, 8, 4, I don't care.

And that coach said to me what I would say to you if I wasn't such a nice guy. :)

yeah, i see how i'm way out of line.

Maybe you should read that quote. Saying that a 16-team playoff wouldn't include too many teams is not the same as saying "I want a 16-team playoff".
