There is already a cautionary tale that pre-exists for slider slingers in North Texas.

Krystal, which to me is indistinguishable from White Castle, tried a similar move more than 20 years ago in DFW. Their first store in Far North Dallas (technically Carrollton, looking at it) opened with traffic wrapping around the block and I was indeed one of those in line for a Bagful®.

Krystal had big plans in the Metroplex and Texas at large, but less than three years later, every store had closed.

Reading back on the post-mortem, Krystal was on shakier ground financially and couldn't make the reach that other QSR companies were later able to pull off, like In-N-Out, Fatburger and now White Castle.

I think stopping at the Krystal on Bourbon Street after midnight is the only time it's acceptable to eat fast food in the French Quarter.
It's a rite of passage, honestly.

I'm there every Tuesday (CSC, not Fadi's). I have Fadi's on my probation list, 10-year penalty, for being rude at the Westheimer location.

I was quietly eating my dinner and some random dude came up and told me to move, I was at "his" table. I politely declined and the manager came over and told me to move. At that point I said a few words that could be considered unkind and told him he would have to physically drag me away from that table. BTW, there were about 10 other quite empty tables around me.

Not quite as bad as the maniac who used to own Cafe Brasil, but still...
This is not surprising to me at all, haha. Fadi's is one of the rare places that still has the vibe of "maybe some **** fell off a truck and into our kitchen."

A glorious memory indeed; if ever a fast food locale needed a reality show, this one is it.

I've done a lot of late-night and marathon drives where I've rolled through a White Castle drive-thru and gotten a sack of them to get me through it.

Not for sustenance or because it's good food. But because the ensuing abdominal cramping and discomfort made it impossible to even think about falling asleep at the wheel.

Yeah, I understand that falling asleep is kinda dangerous, but that level of pain is not exactly the way I wish to try and stay awake ...

LOL. I remember the first Schlotzky I ever had. 1980 or so in Houston. It was like two in the afternoon and I was really hungry and I tried them. I ordered a large original, and the guy on the counter said "They're really big, are you sure you're that hungry?" I assured him that I was.

That thing was an absolute honker, whupped my ass. I took about a third of it home.
Far out, Neutral. I moved to Houston from Metro D.C. in 1980, right after St. Ronnie trounced Jimmy Carter. I'm sure I had my first Schlotzky's sammich before Thanksgiving. There would be many more.

I was there until January 1985, when I moved to Baton Rouge.

I guess I liked it because it was different. And cheesy. But I liked the turkey sammy too.

Just keep those olives outta my sight. YUCK.
