Just got word that about 90 miles away from here, there is a Taco Tico that is in the same building as a Mr. Burger.

If you know anything about these restaurants, know this. They are incredible.

There was one across from my junior high in 1970. We'd get our asses kicked for slipping over there for lunch but it was worth it

Chef, You've got Taco John's relatively close right? TJ's is where it's at.

There used to be a Taco Johns here in town, but got closed down. 2 of my best friends worked there, and on an almost nightly occasion, we would sit around there and engorge ourselves. Nearest Taco John's now is about 100 miles away.

That being said, I would take a Taco Tico over a Taco John's.

Holy ****, I didn't know Taco Tico still even existed! I haven't seen one in at least 30 years.

When I was in high school, my favorite day of the week was Taco Tuesday. Four tacos for a buck at Taco Tico.

In life there are 2 kinds of fast food tacos ... Jack in the Box tacos and everything else.

Yes! The one in Topeka. My first job 20 years ago. Three bucks went a loooong way.

I stop at either the Tyler Road store in Wichita or Augusta when traveling west. Derby and Newton are the most recent stores to come back from the dead.

A few different local organizations have also done Taco Tico fundraisers where they sell tacos, sanchos, combo burritios or tacoburgers. The first time, they did it during the local summer festival and the line went halfway down the block. Last time out, the wrestling team had it as a fundraiser. I was told you can buy the meat online. I need to investigate that.

Richard Christy from the Howard Stern show loves Taco Tico.
Wife grew up near one and occasionally will still call Taco Bell, Taco Tico.

7:44 in the morning reading this thread, and I have a hankering for a couple burritos and a taco burger right about now.

So, according to this, there's oatmeal(!) in the meat. If that's what makes it what it is, I'm OK with that.
Damn Good Food: Taco Tico Meat

I may try to make it and see what happens.

Can also make a good Cincinnati-style hot dog chili with that approach ... the beef is simmered (basically braised) rather than browned. Follow that approach and season, per 1 lb. of beef, with 1 TBSP of chili powder and 1 TSP of cumin.

You can't say the words Cincinnati and Chili without this........

I do mine with sour cream, tabasco, jalapenos and black olives on top though.

Is that chili or a cheese bomb?

Love me some Taco John's. A six-pack and a pound of Potato Ole's would hit the spot right now. Of course, I'd need a 10-hour nap after that.

My all-time favorite is Taco Bueno, though. The in-house salsa bar is ridiculous.
