According to the Christian Science Monitor, 13% of Germans would welcome a new "Fuhrer" to rule the country. A decent percentage of Germans think Jews have too much influence in the country and believe that non-Christians have no place in Germany.

Germany is an odd country.

I bet the numbers would be similar in most European countries and the U.S. Just substitute leader with power to enact laws with Fuhrer.

Exactly my thought. Drop "fuhrer" and the US number would be higher.

Austria's much odder, and a huge contributing factor. No accident Adolph was Austrian.

The percentage would be low in the United States right now because of who is President.

It would have been high in the United States from 2001-08.

I think it would skyrocket right now.

Go out and ask people if they would support centralizing power behind a good Christian who would make sure non-Christians have less influence. Bet you the number is higher than 13%.

Oh, right, right.

I was just thinking of the question as, "Would you support the President being able to unilaterally enact enforceable laws?"

I think the fact that Americans wanted to make Washington the king of the United States right after winning a war of independence from a monarch shows that there is an inclination for being paternally controlled fighting within most people against their inclinations for personal liberty.

I know Christopher Hitchens has always maintained that notion.

Based on reexamined demographic data, guesstimating that number at about 27%.

Fortunately, everyone else looks at that 27%, and when that 27% tries to endrun the will of the broad populace and win a general, the 73% goes, "No, no, no" (excepting 2000, but that was what that was).

I lived there for 3 years recently and it's a cool country, with the top economy in Europe, I think.
People there are routinely furious about Russian immigrants who eat up tax-sponsored social welfare help.
They don't like most Muslims, who usually can be found sticking together and not standing up to decry the "fanatical, violent Muslims."
There is a wide range of incomes there, but the most can at least call themselves middle class.

Germans are cold blooded killers who tried to eliminate an entire ethnic group. They slaughtered men, women, children, babies, toddlers, infants and pregnant mothers. They killed the weak and elderly and children who were basically mockingbirds.

No, the statute of limitations is not up yet on WWII. Let's put another generation or two in ground before we let these crazies off the leash.

If Americans start rounding up all the Mexicans (for example) in the country and start killing them by the hundreds of thousands, I am sure my wife, child and I would leave and never return to this country. No desire to visit the Germans who stuck around.

"Whatever you do, don't mention the war. I did it once, but I think I got away with it."

Nice to know you don't hold a grudge, 93. In more than six years on this board, this is one of the few posts to make me do a double-take.

I was not alive for WWII, but I honestly cannot comprehend the mindset of that Country during that period.

It might be a drastic stance on my part, but if it is any consolation, I don't give people who hang people from trees just for the hell of it an easy pass either.

And I'm sure you condemn all white people while doing so.

I have no idea where you are going with that. Where did I type "white?"

One presumes you're writing about "lynching."

Historically a white-on-black crime.

If not, then please explain what you were trying to post to excuse condemning an entire nation for its behavior 75 years ago.

Holy wow, Devil just raised the bar on over-generalizations.

Most Germans didn't learn of the Holocaust until after the fact and had no interest in "eliminating an entire ethnic group." And to attribute that to today's Germans is just ludicrous. Why didn't OUR ancestors leave the country when WE were rounding up and killing the native american race by the thousands? By your logic, guess that means we're also cold blooded genocidal killers.
