The Bengals will never fire a coach in the middle of the season. They're too cheap.

Was thinking Kubiak too, but I have a suspicion the Texans would just wait until the offseason to can him (as is rumored every year).

I almost thought about putting down that no coach would be fired during the season, but that would be chicken****. Most of the trainwreck teams have new or relatively new coaches. The Bengals are too cheap to fire anyone when they're under contract. I could see Coughlin getting canned if the Giants struggle. I could see Kubiak getting fired. I could see Haley getting fired.

Agree with you on Coughlin, but the Giants would have to REALLY be struggles. The Mara family wouldn't just cut with Coughlin for anything (and if they do, it'd be in the offseason).

Could see Haley too... didn't really think of him, but there's an outside shot he could get canned.

The Bengals are dysfunctional. Sure, they might normally be too cheap to fire someone mid-contract, but someone's going to get the ax for the ****storm that's about to hit. And I get the feeling that it's the very last straw for Lewis.

Bonus: I think the Eagles will struggle early on to get all the new pieces to fit, especially given the historically short timeframe post-lockout, before putting it together around midseason. I think that's about the only way the team is comparable to the Heat. I still think Vick is a terrible leader and that will cost them. Also, it wouldn't surprise me to see him get hurt, like he did in Atlanta. His game just doesn't lend itself to good health.

Since there's nothing I love in life more than being wrong....

OK, I'll admit it, I'm a Saints' homer. Sue me ;)

Curious why you think Lovie Smith will be fired at all, much less the first coach to go?

I've been his biggest critic for a while, but he did a pretty good job last year and the Bears are not the type of organization to jettison a coach in mid-season.

I'm waiting for Lovie Smith to adopt a sideline face other than "I smell a fart."

The Bears will never fire a coach mid-season. If Lovie is in the final year of his contract (I don't think this is the case...) it would be a possibility, but the Bears don't like to fire coaches who have years left on their contracts. It's the reason they stuck with Jauron for so long. But as you point out, the Bears just aren't the type of team to make a mid-season move.

That's actually a decent call on Del Rio. I didn't even think of him.

Del Rio isn't getting fired. He is on the Jeff Fisher plan. Bunch of .500 seasons, a playoff run here and there and an owner that is cheap and likes him.

If the Jaguars suck this year he will get canned at end of year but not during.
