One I don't like: Cantlay. Shrinking violet in the majors.

First time I’ve ever seen someone question whether Boston fans will be boorish. Then again it is a slightly more upscale crowd than Fenway. Then again II, look at the 1999 Ryder Cup.

The practice round galleries have cheered for Mickelson, FWIW. One highlight of the '88 Open was the startled reaction of the golfers coming up 18 in the final round when the gallery there was chanting "Beat LA" as everybody was listening to Game Six of the Lakers-Pistons Finals on their radios.

Very impressed that there's a curling arena on the grounds, right next to the media center (which is usually the indoor tennis center). I poked my head in there but alas no stones, it's all carpeted over for event space.

I'm pretty sure the number of curling arenas that have year-round ice are very few in the United States. More money to be made by turning off the compressor and, as you said, booking wedding receptions and such.

I had an Airbnb in Brookline last year when I went to Boston. Not too far, but pretty sure you can't see a venue like that from the road.

Brookline's public course, Putterham Meadows, abuts part of the Country Club grounds (it was used for parking in 1988). You can't quite see it from Putterham's 18, though.

The Country Club is like Black Rock near where I live. Black Rock (Belichick and others live(d) there) is gated. I’m about a mile as the crow flies to the back of the course, but of course there’s no entrance on this side lest commoners sneak in.

One more Country Club anecdote. OK, two more, but the last one will just be a statement of fact. First, the story. Played the course on media day for the '99 Ryder Cup. Each foursome had one member, and ours was very unstuffy, a regular good fellow. Anyway, it's morning, and we're on one hole when a elderly (my age now, I bet) chap was running along the side of the fairway with his two unleashed Irish setters. I expressed surprise. The member said, "that guy (didn't name him) can go anywhere he wants. He's been club champion here four times and at Myopia (historic North Shore course) three times." SuperWASP!
Now the fact: Tom Brady was not accepted as a club member. But Gisele Bundchen was.

NBC is using USA as its de facto replacement for the defunct NBCSN. A lot of its Premier League broadcasts were 0n it. USA is in the basic package of most cable systems and Golf Channel isn't, so ratings should be higher.

That's not really a good comparison. The Country Club is deceptively hard to find, but it is only a few miles from downtown Boston. It's a testament to the development of the Boston area. You could walk from the poorest neighborhoods in Boston to The Country Club.
