122nd U.S. Open running thread

Was thinking the same damn thing, especially after Daffue just chipped in to go to -6. According to Golf, Korn Ferry guy who just acquired enough points for a PGA Tour card next season, a 33-year-old grinder who shot 8-under in his U.S. Open qualifer. He's playing with house money right now, although my guess is he's about to face a whole new level of pressure this weekend.

This pro didn't plan on playing the U.S. Open. Now he's a shot off the lead (golf.com)

Back to reality. Three bogeys, including on the par-5 where he hit out of the hospitality area.

A couple notes on the broadcast - when you factor in his golf coverage, Tirico is a great value for NBC in that he is adept, perhaps not spectacular, in golf, the Olympics and football - pretty much all the sports NBC does anymore.

Who thought it was a good idea to use a British VO for the U.S. Open? Clearly they could have found a George Plimpton-sound alike for a tourney in the Boston area.

I think Tirico's great on golf, and he's been doing it for 25 years. For my money he's better than Hicks.

After that second shot in the hay, a double-digit score didn't seem out of the question.
