Whoever the dude in the booth at Holly Rowe’s is, he was disrespectful. Called her “girl” twice, then talked over her while she was giving an update.

And I love Holly. She was in town to work a game several years ago. I asked the SID if he could get a request to her to come talk to my sportswriting class, and she was awesome.

I never, ever thought I would say this, but it might be time for Ethan Grunkemeyer to see some significant snaps ... something in the line of what Pribula saw last year. QB1 has lost his way.

And of course, the money shot is that they're paying this kind of cash to Franklin and Jim Knowles, pouring big bucks into the Beav. And meanwhile they're closing seven branch campuses.

That can't be acceptable by any fair standard. I know some people are never going to look past Sandusky, but there are a lot of young people around this state who may end their college education early because of football bucks.

Don’t forget the huge raise the school president just received that has a few people pissed because she’s getting this as they are closing the branch campuses.

I looked at Allar’s stat line. 19/26 for 200 and no picks. He didn’t play horribly but his misses, especially on third down, were bad. It’s obvious to me the plan is win with the run game while asking Allar to manage the game and not **** it up but when the run game isn’t working you still have to trust him enough to cut him loose to make plays, which he did in leading the comeback.

Really, 35 points is plenty to win a game in the Big 10. Giving up 42 is inexcusable

Allar was fine. (One of the turnovers was when the receiver fumbled.) Hackenberg had much worse games. So did Zack Mills and Anthony Morelli, who were supposed to be the second comings. The last pro-ready quarterback they had was more than a generation ago.

Two things.

One, the rushing yardage he picked up in comeback mode was yardage there for the taking against a prevent look.

I don't disagree with that at all. And that's a hell of an indictment for a guy who some say is going to be the first QB picked in the draft.

The best thing that happened for Drew Allar yesterday was that Missouri was off this week so there was no comparing of QB performances.

Most contracts step down on buy-outs significantly (depending on length of contract term) following a complete season, normally on March 1. Maybe $37.5M is an easier pill to swallow in Happy Valley than a $50M one.

EDIT: Duly noted from the fighting kitty. So basically an $8M step-down starting Jan. 1 each year. At the end of 2026 it would drop to $40M.

I've never had the decision to make, but it would be awfully tempting to say, screw college football. And no media had better be sniffing around the front gate of my gated community in Paradise.

And BTW, from the PennLive story:

If the university were to fire him without cause, Penn State owes Franklin his entire base salary ($500,000) plus his supplemental pay ($6.5 million) and his life insurance loan ($1 million) — $8 million total — multiplied by the number of years remaining. As he’s still in coaching year 2025, the fourth of 10, he would be owed seven years worth of salary.

In other words, Penn State would owe James Franklin $56 million if it fired him after the UCLA loss. If it waited until Jan. 1, 2026, it would be $48 million.
