I just mailed out my absentee ballot and therefore voted in a presidential election for the first time. I figured we could have a little more light-hearted political thread and share stories about your first time voting for a presidential candidate (for many of you it was probably before I was born).

Man, you people are young.
For me, it was Jimmy Carter in 1980. I didn't pick a winner 'til Clinton in 92, although I did help Steve Garvey get voted into the All-Star game as a write-in in 1974.

A wonderful experience. I voted early in the morning before I went to class. My pick lost, but I knew he would. It was still nice to participate in the election, and to have a say in the more-contested state and county elections.

Kemp wasn't all that conservative back then. (He and Colin Powell were this moderate Republican's dream ticket for a long time. Still are, maybe, although that ship sailed long ago.)

JFK -- that's John French Kemp -- received my first vote for President in the 1988 primary, during my sophomore year of college, and I wrote him in for the general election.
