From a friend's e-mail when I said I saw something interesting in this month's Esquire.

Silly (JayFarrar)! You're such a demographic: Cusp-of-middle-age, white, ambiguously heterosexual, bon vivant unmarried male who thinks he's still young, and who has disposable income, sports and boob fetishes, and friends he wants to impress with bar trivia.

Then he asked if I subscribed to Details or just read it at the bookstore.

Lordy, that description cuts awfully close to home.

I fit the description. But I let my subscription to Esquire lapse two years ago, because even though they will give it to you for something like $5 a year if you find an online offer or just hold out on resubscribing for a month or two, they were getting lost in stacks of reading of things I cared more about.

I do have a boob fetish, though. Is it really that bad?

Who wants to be "ambiguously heterosexual"?

I had a subscription for about ten years starting in the mid 60's. Wolfe, Mailer, Capote, and Talese were the stars back then.

Gave it up until a few years ago when our man Jones started writing.

Cancelled it. Its "Look at me, I'm hip" posturing became really off-putting.

Anyway, can read almost everything online. :)

I've been a subscriber for about 2 years......sometimes I'll read an entire issue, other times won't even open it. I'm only paying something like $4/yr, something crazy inexpensive, so it's worth keeping.

Plus, I love reading about what clothing I "need" to have each season, especially when an outfit costs about $9,000....that's just the pants and shirt.

Their fashion stuff is pretty good but that $750.00 cashmere sweater means two fewer Leafs tickets. :)

Flipping through a GQ at the grocery store while The Lady Friend did some shopping, saw a fashion spread with Joel McHale. One page was about socks. The cheapest pair was $14. The most expensive was $250. Most were close to $100 a pair.

I've had an Esquire subscription for years but I don't think my boob fetish has anything to do with it.

My boob fetish, however, is likely responsible for my Voluptuous subscription.

Love boobs, but I'm more of an ass man.

And I read Esquire. For free.

the way the Leafs are playing.....ya might as well buy the sweater. :-)

I don't really subscribe to magazines anymore. I'll usually just pick up a couple at the airport when I have to travel.

I frequently pick up Esquire. I like it, but it's disposable. It's the perfect kind of fare for a two-hour plane flight. Flip through it once, and then throw it away when you land.

I only subscribe to magazines if I would purchase them in a store frequently enough that the subscription costs less. I paid $12 for a two-year subscription to Esquire and $10 for a single year of Entertainment Weekly. I had an Autoweek subscription for many years because it's impossible to find a store that carries it. I didn't renew this year because I felt that it was too expensive.

I subscribe to way too many magazines. I like Esquire and am always tempted to add it to my subscriptions, but I have no time to read it. I've subscribed to GQ since the early 90s. Even though I read lots of women's/fashion magazines - Lucky, Allure, Marie Claire, etc. - I love GQ and Esquire (and used to read Details a long time ago) because the articles are so much better/more interesting.

My friend! You such a cliched tool: Sitting around judging, labeling and defining others disdainfully to cover your own early 1990s, Reailty Bites sense of self-loathing and inadequacy.

Ha! That is the second time "Reality Bites" has come up in as many days. Even though that's my age group, I could not relate to that movie at all. And Ethan Hawke might want to pick up GQ/Esquire to get some tips on showering.
