That, however, isn't what the lawsuit is about.

The lawsuit filed by James Rosemond and his mother, Cynthia Reed, says Universal Music Group -- owned by Vivendi SA -- and its labels Interscope Records, G-Unit Records and Shady Records, bear responsibility for the assault because they encourage artists to pursue violent, criminal lifestyles.

Kid could sue the other two for assault. He could sue 50 Cent if he could establish a preponderance of the evidence that 50 Cent told them to assault him.

Suing for "promoting a gangsta lifestyle?" Dismissed.

Kid alleges that 50 Cent ordered Yayo and whoever to beat him up because he supported a business rival? That might have some legs (if he has any evidence to back it up).

Kid alleges that the assault happened because Universal Media Group is "promoting a gangsta lifestyle" is never going to hold water in court of law. First Amendment and all that.

That charge is one the kid could hope to win with (again, with evidence, yada, yada).

Basically, though, the kid's lawyer is hoping to get an out-of-court settlement for more than he deserves for simply taking a beating.
