Procreation day delivers results
By Liza Kuznetsova

MOSCOW (AP) — A Russian region best known as the birthplace of Vladimir Lenin has found a novel way to fight the nation's birthrate crisis: It has declared Sept. 12 the Day of Conception and for the third year running is giving couples time off from work to procreate.

The hope is for a brood of babies exactly nine months later, on Russia's national day. Couples who "give birth to a patriot" during the June 12 festivities win money, cars, refrigerators and other prizes.

Ulyanovsk, a region on the Volga River about 550 miles east of Moscow, has held similar contests since 2005. Since then, the number of competitors, and the number of babies born to them, has been on the rise.

(a bog about the former Soviet Union)
Russia has declared September 12, Procreation Day, or the Day of Conception. Workers get the day off to. . . ummm procreate! If you have a baby exactly 9 months later of June 12, you win $250,000!

I wish I had known about this Russian holiday sooner, though I think I will not celebrate it this year. I have procreated enough for now!

The Russian government came up with this holiday into to reverse their population crisis which is too little births rather than too many.

This is not a new thing in Russia/USSR. My husband told me that women who had 10 children were given a medal. I believe Karimov in Uzbekistan still gives out medals for women with the most children. In America, you just get your own special on The Discovery Channel.

Wow, nobody noticed this is a D_B? I'm disappointed ;)

As I said on the other board, I really think our current government here in Canada should impose this law.
PM Harper and the Conservatives could actually win a majority government if this is in their mandate.

(BTW, Canadian Female SJ members, Peter MacKay will probably make himself available to procreate with you if this becomes law...personally, I would take a big pass. The guy is UGLY. Beware, he might call you a "dog" ::) )
