who doesn't love a list? stylus' top 100 videos

if the videos weren't enough, there's this passage which i particularly enjoyed

The power of the music video writ large. NWA were straight-up *****, a ragtag group of geeks who'd lose a straight man-on-man dust up with Crowded House. Ice Cube's gait here in particular gives the impression that his spine is constructed entirely from marshmallow. But they learned from Mussolini: look grander by being shot from beneath. Add to this camera trick people walking around with their shoes on fire, masturbatory gun craft, cops with cartoon moustaches, lingering cartographer friendly map shops, Eazy E getting skin like the Fresh Prince returning to West Philadelphia, and you've just made the CPT Chess Club look a) cool and b) like the kind of guys who could cause a kerfuffle. So iconic that Rockstar managed to create an entire video game from it.

anyway, the list -- as most of these are -- seems to be too skewed to the recent, but still pretty interesting

I realize these lists are put together to generate discussion, but any list of Top 100 videos that does not include "Money For Nothing" is simply null and void. If you want to leave it out of the Top 20, fine. I can at least see that's debatable. But to exclude it from the Top 100 completely is asinine and renders the remainder of the list stupid.

Just looked through the list and feel like I'm getting old. In the entire list I think there's only about 15-16 videos I've seen and in terms of songs, you might be able to add another 5 or 6 to that number for songs I've actually heard.

At one time that video was MTV's greatest of all time, according to their own list. To think that 100 other videos have been made to top it is simply wrong. The list is "dead" to me.

Around the World is good, but Da Funk is much better, one of the most poignant stories I've ever seen in a video. Love that video, and beat jam.

i thought it was jonze in a run-away, but then you look at romanek's body of work, it's pretty damn impressive

I thought most recent videos were just hand-held cameras.

pitchforkmedia.com had their own list of the top 100 videos a month or two ago. It pretty entertaining because they threw in a lot of junk (a Village People tune about phone sex and a little girl doing a creepy version of that Kelly Clarkson song were two of the odder ones).
