Actor Wesley Snipes was arrested Friday in Florida on charges of tax fraud, Steve Cole, spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Tampa, Fla., tells PEOPLE.

Snipes, 44, had been filming a movie in Namibia despite the warrant for his arrest, which was issued in October. He is charged with fraudulently claiming nearly $12 million in tax refunds and failing to file returns from 1999 through 2004.

The actor flew into the Orlando International Airport and voluntarily surrendered, Cole said. He was due to appear in court at 10:30 a.m. on Ocala, Fla.

Snipes had been filming the movie Gallowwalker in Africa. In October, the film's producer, Joanne Reay, told the Associated Press filming was scheduled to run until the third week of December.

If found guilty on the tax-fraud charges, Snipes could face up to 16 years in prison. http://people.aol.com/people/article/0,26334,1568004,00.html

He just just gather all his cash, go to Vegas and bet on black until he can pay the taxes.

OCALA -- Wesley Snipes, the Hollywood action star, was taken into custody this morning and will appear before a federal judge to answer charges of tax fraud and conspiracy later today.

Wearing his signature black sunglasses, a black 2-piece suit and a blue shirt, Snipes walked through the back entrance of the courthouse at 9:30 a.m., escorted by federal agents and a prosecutor.

Signature black sunglasses?

Is Snipes a Blues Brother, and I didn't know?

No. That's what vampires wear in the daylight.

How the hell does this stuff keep happening?

This is my simple Things To Do List the moment that I become a mega-star:

1. Hire accountant.

2. Tell accountant, "If you screw this up and lose my money, you will be killed. If you screw this up and get the IRS on my ass, you will be killed."

End of list.

Sounds like Mr. Snipes didn't want to spend any money on accountants -- or taxes for that matter.

For selfish reasons, I hope he doesn't do time. I like watching his direct-to-dvd action movies. There, I said it. And I'm serious, I watch his and Seagal's stuff all the time.

Not a bad life, huh? Make 4 movies a year, work in Eastern European or African countries where the dollar is incredibly inflated, maybe have a tryst or two with the models-turned-actresses on the film. I could go for that. All you have to remember to do is pay your taxes.

I can never turn that one off.

I love Seagal, man. I can't believe the guy is like 56 now. If he hadn't allowd himself to get so heavy, you'd never know.

I think he is godawful, but US had Tommy Lee, Busey and Colm Meaney. Seagal was in the movie for about half the time he normally is, and the story moved along.

Yeah, I forgot Colm Meaney was in that until I watched it like 2 months ago. He's very good. Busey in drag is great, and Tommy Lee, as usual, kicks ass. Erika Eleniak wasn't too hard on the eyes, either.

A good life, but a waste of talent. Snipes was chillingly good in New Jack City. And Blade was a huge blockbuster, right? So how does this guy almost immediately end up in B movies?
