Witches being burned in Kenya

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7413268.stm

A former poster, seemed to take the tact that all these evil people and unpunished crimes against liberty have dragged America into an abyss that makes him long for the good-old days.

I'm being a bit facetious, but the good old days are alive and well in Kenya apparently. Can anyone believe this can happen in 2008 -- no matter how backward the society? Why can't the world become liberal and enlightened enough to not be insane, despotic and instead put a premium on individual rights without everyone looking for their voodoo scapegoats to work the unthinking masses into a frenzy?

Would be nice, but so long as China is evolving into the 800-pound gorilla, unlikely.

Way, way, too easy. I'll wait for something better.

Besides, this is the new board. We have to make sure we don't hurt people's feelings.

What makes you so sure they're not witches?

Mike Huckabee would like to know why they didn't use lethal injection.

I know a witch when I see one... It's all in the distance between the eyes.

Tom, the wax museum there terrified me as a kid.

i also enjoyed the tour of the jail ... which was a little spooky itself just knowing what had taken place there.

salem was a great stop in general. i'll go back again the next time i go to boston.

There's a big, ugly, city-wide bacchanal there every Halloween. So I guess the Puritans won the battle, but lost the war. I'm not much on the Halloween cluster****, but under normal circumstances, O'Neill's Pub is a great place to have a pint. And the Peabody Essex Museum is cool.

Joan Allen looks horrible in that movie.

Giles Corey: "More. Weight."
