1. Two current major leaguers have played on 11 different teams, the most of any active player. They are? (FYI, two stints with the same team does not count as a "different" team).
ANSWER: Matt Stairs is one (Expos, Red Sox, A's, Cubs, Brewers, Royals, Rangers, Tigers, Jays, Phillies).
Ron Villone is the other guy. (Mariners, Padres, Brewers, Indians, Reds, Rockies, Astros, Pirates, Marlins, Yankees, Cardinals).
2. How many times did Jack Dempsey knock down Luis Firpo in their famous 1923 fight?
ANSWER: The fight was stopped in the second round after Dempsey's ninth knockdown of Firpo.
3. The only golfer to retire undefeated in Ryder Cup play was ...
ANSWER: Jimmy Demeret, by Birdscribe. Undefeated in the 1947, 1949 and 1951 Ryder Cup competitions.
4. Name six Division I basketball schools named after U.S. military figures. (Washington, WSU, Jackson State, etc., do not count as they are named after geographical locations, not historical figures).
ANSWER: So far, we have George Washington, Lafayette, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, James Madison (not George Mason, don't think he was a soldier) and Davidson (that's a new one for me). There are a couple obvious ones still out there, and some that are not.
Rutgers, Nicholls State and Howard are the other three I was thinking of that were not named.
5. What former major-league baseball player is recognized on the Yankee Conference's 50th anniversary all-star football team?
ANSWER: Brian Jordan is correct. Defensive back at Richmond from 1986-88.
