Deep in the hearta (enemy territory)
Death toll is apparently up to 14 and more than a hundred are unaccounted for, according to the news at the top of the hour.

Didn't see a thread started. It's awful. I'm on my phone; otherwise I'd link a picture of just how massive this landslide was.

The list of missing is 176. That will probably drop because some of that is just cross-checking. But the death toll is expected to go up.

The video here gives you an idea of how massive this was:

In the cable news world I guess mudslides do not generate the excitement
that missing airplanes do. Especially one in the USA. A mudslide in Haiti and
Sanja Gupta and Anderson Cooper would be on their way.

Apparently this hill had slid many, many times, and some experts had already warned not to allow buildings there.

Which makes some of the quotes from officials all the more appalling. What a sad, sad story. Who knows how high the death toll will climb, since no survivors have been found since Saturday.

I had been wondering the same thing, Boom. You stated it much better than I had wondered it.

More evidence no one should have been allowed to build there: experts also warned against continuing to allow logging to continue at the slope. Currently there are 16 people listed as dead, with eight more bodies found that haven't yet been added to the list.
