Breen, JVG and Jackson on the Duke-Davidson game tonight? OUT-****ING-STANDING.

Vitale screaming about Coach K and Stephen Curry for two hours would have been a sure way to **** what should be an ... um ... awesome game ... uh ... baybeee?

Whether it will be an awesome game is debatable. Curry has been struggling in recent weeks and with a much weaker supporting cast than last year, he's going to need to be lights out in Cameron Indoor to even give them a chance.

Saw Curry drop 29 on the College of Charleston last week. That's not Duke, but he wasn't exactly struggling, either. He made some passes -- including a no-look to Andrew Lovedale that would have been on SportsCenter had the big man not blown the layup -- that would convince you of his future as an NBA point guard.

As for Vitale .... yeah, it's a schtick, but the guy bleeds the game. And in my experience he's proven a great pre-game interview for college basketball writers.

Exactly. That was against the College of Charleston. What about the back-to-back-to-back poor games he had against WVU, Chattanooga and Purdue. And I watched the West Virginia game, so I'm aware that he played amazing down the stretch. You can't discount, though, that he struggled for most of that game against a very shorthanded Mountaineers team. If he struggles for the 35 minutes against Duke, they'll be losing by 20-30 points.

I'm not trying to bash the kid; I love watching him play. I just think it's tough for him to carry that team night in and night out, especially against a team like Duke. But believe me, I hope I'm proven wrong.

**** Vitale is a Hall of Famer. He knows the game. Take away the schtick and you've got one of the better basketball minds around.

dicky V might be a super nice guy, Hall of Famer and super passionate about basketball, but i feel like i've weathered a marathon race after listening to him. he absolutely never shuts up. the only thing worse is listening to Mel Kiper, Jr., carry on. smart guys, don't get me wrong, but one can only take so much of either of them.
to listen to Dicky V canonize practically every hoopster who ever put on a college uniform is the ultimate in practicing patience.

Any truth to the rumor Dickie V is doing the NBA game because of Coach K's restraining order against him?

OK, I thought Davidson would make this a better game. Unfortunately, got up big enough that the NBA crew had plenty of time to fellate Coach K.

Great ... and now Dickie V is on.

I said this on the college bball thread. This isn't last year's Davidson team. Still probably a tournament team, but they won't make a deep run this year.

No question. I've seen a bunch of their games this year and, while Curry is an adept passer and has played well at the point, this team really misses having him at the 2 all the time. It's just harder for him to find his shot when he's running the offense instead of flowing within it.

i just put ESPN on to check out this game, not knowing Vitale was calling it

brutal

as bad as ever

over-reacting to everything, screaming about everything, over-hyping everything

big-time nails on a chalkboard

impossible to listen to

Breen, JVG and Jackson are as good a team as there is.

who wins a TalkFest between Dicky V and Mel Kiper, Jr.?

Joan Rivers will serve as judge.

Dukie V wins, cause he will not let Kiper get a word in.

ha..man, that's saying a lot.
I mean, I'll hear Kiper sometimes on ESPN radio and I swear, they can't shut him up. he's the main reason--along with Chris Berman--that I absolutely can't take much of the NFL draft on ESPN. give Kiper his due in knowing about these prospects, but it gets to the point where you have to wonder how much of this is major overload of information. the other day The Hair That Never Moves got into a major debate with some NFL writer who disagreed with him on a certain prospect. it was like the scribe had questioned Mel's religion. geez.

When I lived in Indy in the mid/late 1980s, **** Vitale was on the Pacers broadcasts. I don't know if he did color, but he at least did some halftime stuff now and then.

Thought it was entertaining and different. Vitale made some very interesting observations. I liked his take on one and done rule. Don't agree but I think he's on the right track.

They were great.

Talking about all the charges at a Duke home game was interesting.

I think ESPN should do this switch annually.
