Twitter is all aflutter over this. Very sad, but what a life (he, hopefully, turns 100 in October) if this is the end.

99. Lived life to the fullest. So much influence on the sport, and people. I grew up in Southern California and this will hurt. Like nothing else. Saw him speak about 15 years ago. Sharp as a tack. And was glad a couple of years ago when T.J. Simers go him and Vin Scully together at L.A. Live. Sent my dad there for Father's Day and said it was one of the best nights he's ever experienced.

That was an original rumor going around in L.A. about an hour ago. I'll wait for UCLA or Bill Dwyre to confirm it.

Apparently Orange County Register posted it, then retracted it, but not before a few media people tweeted it. So he isn't dead.

Have a buddy at a SoCal paper who said Marc Dellins told their reporter he is in grave condition. There is nothing on the L.A. Times site, not even the report that he is in the hospital.

Have been able to get up close and personal to listen to him speak just one time -- McDonald's All-American game in '95.

I believe both Garnett and Pierce played in that game.

Anyway, Wooden was like the Pied Piper. Could have listened to him talk for hours and hours.

He was hilarious talking about how much "fun" it would be to coach Garnett. Akin to his dealings with Walton.

Covered the Wooden Classic once and he was a gem at the press conference. Did a few phone and personal interviews with him and he was one of the nicest people I've ever interviewed. A truly classy representative for the sport. One of the great ones.

It's really disgraceful because people with big ears, but with no reporting skills, are "hearing" things and posting on various social media sites.
