Hey SI, flipping through the new issue and love the picture of the Heisman winners at their new Heisman Foundation. One problem, the guy fourth from the right is NOT Tim Brown. It's Desmond Howard, only I barely recognized him without his little microphone wrapped around his head.

The most striking thing about that spread is Earl Campbell sitting down. Incredibly sad, with all the other guys in cheesy Heisman poses on either side of him.

That's bad, but not as bad as Esquire apparently using a photo of the wrong woman last month for its Sexiest Woman Alive segment. They ran a correction in this month's edition. Still the best magazine out there, though.

Yeah, I was paid up. Decided to call today and complain but ... lo and behold, I got my issue in the mail before I could. I guess my mailperson was stealing them or something. I'd half expect it if it was the swimsuit issue, but no.

According to it, Elton Brand, Pervis Ellison, Michael Olowokandi, Joe Smith, and Chris Webber have "never made playoffs." In fact, all of them have played on teams that have made the playoffs.

According to it, Elton Brand, Pervis Ellison, Michael Olowokandi, Joe Smith, and Chris Webber have "never made playoffs." In fact, all of them have played on teams that have made the playoffs.

They really put that in? Did they mean it in a different context, like may never played in the finals or something?

IT'S THE MOMENT every owner and G.M. dreams about: Choosing first in the draft. The NHL's Blackhawks basked in it last Friday when they chose winger Patrick Kane (story below). The NBA's Trail Blazers will revel in it this Thursday, when they use the top choice on, most likely, Ohio State's Greg Oden (above). But there's no guarantee the good feelings will last much beyond draft night. This breakdown of the last 20 top picks in each league shows how far each has taken the franchise that drafted him. OK, I'm a moron. I just re-read the accompanying article and they were referring to how far the team that drafted the player made it. So, it was right - Elton Brand didn't take the Bulls to the playoffs, he took the Clippers, etc. My (not SI's) mistake. Sorry about that.

Three major errors on one photo. There was a time when SI wouldn't make that many in a year.

Not really.

But there was a time when their errors weren't spread all over the internet.

Right now 883 (and counting) people now know of the errors.

I wonder how many would have actually noticed the errors had they simply been reading the magazine as 13-year-old fans (as they were when it was so much better).

Many wouldn't have seen the magazine in the first place because they don't subscribe.
Others would have skipped over the photo.
Still others would have looked at the photo but paid little attention to the cutline.
Still others would have read the cutline and noticed nothing.
And finally, a few may have actually noticed the errors.

Of course, it's hard to screw up an ID on covers like this (but I can pretty much guarantee there are three errors somewhere in the issue).

Everything is magnified today. Britney's lack of underwear while getting out of a car . . . politicians saying stupid things ("Macaca") . . . and, yes, errors in SI.
