Truly strange films

in a completely different vein, one that I wasn't expecting to be as weird as it was was 'cable guy.'

I will not be swayed. I watch it like once a week. Wonderful flick. Kate Winslett is brilliant and Jim Carrey good.

Mulholland makes my head hurt -- great, um, couch scene

After Mulholland Drive was explained to me, it actually kind of made sense.

Apparently, the first part of the movie is a dream sequence that occurs just before the main character kills herself. The second half is what really happened.

It would take to long time to explain, but if you view the movie with this in mind it makes a little more sense. I'm sure there are long, involved explanations on the web.

Oh, and I'm not just sucking up to SC, but I put Eternal Sunshine in my top 10 also. Although, I know a lot of people that think it was stupid and didn't get it. If you understand that the first part is everything that happened after their memories were erased it makes sense.

Oh and here's a weird/disturbing movie for you: Happiness. The title is definitely misleading.

Strange, to me, aren't necessarily hard to understand. They're just odd. Some off the top of my head:

Some of the strangest - and best - are silent films. Metropolis is a chilling work. So is Sunrise.

Luis Bunuel films (Blood of a Poet, Land Without Bread) would fit in this category.

A couple of Polanski films (easily The Tenant).

Several Bergman films (most notably Persona)

A couple Jeunet films (Delicatessen and City of Lost Children)

The Cell, with Lopez and Vaughn.

Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom is one strange film.

Eternal Sunshine lost a crucial framing structure that Kaufman had inserted that made it more logical. Although I understood it perfectly well.

Kate Winslet's performance is a kind of summary statement for the feelings of a lot of young women, I think. It was very good.

Mulholland Drive has a couple elements that can never be explained because Lynch provided no explanation for them.

Seeing lots of diversity and good choices, although Mulholland Drive apparently tops quite a few lists.

I'm surprised to not see any Takashi Miike movies in here. Happiness of the Katikuris and Audition are both wild.

Maybe even more surprised somebody has seen Straight to Hell.

Back to crazy japanese flicks, Battle Royale is pretty cool.
