Daring Virgins is a great name for a band. Or the name of a traveling troupe of acrobatic nuns.

I think they would fit well with 3 of Hearts and the JaneDear Girls on my list of obscure country chick bands. Any group with Virgins in the name would have to be country, unless they were a punk band going for shock value.

Except for the part about being Catholic, I can't say that my younger life was that much different from our good friend Hawk.

Heck, I had all the answers, did what I wanted, remained chaste, didn't ever want kids, etc.

Fast forward 20+ years and I meet a month-old angel in distress, not mine, who changed my life. I never knew kids could be so wonderful. God truly does put kids in our lives to cure us of selfishness. I have had more joy from this child doing "kid" things than I could ever have imagined. Good or bad, she never fails to put a smile on my face and remind me that God is good.

Keep on truckin' Nighthawk... just don't be surprised when God smacks you upside the head one day and everything changes

If my mind does change, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. My guess, however, is that the only interaction I'll have with kids is as an uncle. I like that idea better than having my own.

The problem is you are not abstaining from sex. You are abstaining from sex with a partner.
Masturbation = sin

That's still abstaining from sex. Though masturbation is a sin, it's not as bad a sin as actually having sex. It's a venial sin, while actual sex would be a mortal sin. Still unquestionably bad, but not as bad.

I hope you will at least leave yourself open to the possibility that you and your motivations will change as you grow older. Time has a way of tempering even the most intense youthful fervor.

A family of alcoholics will do that to you. Only had two shots in my life. One was at my bachelor party, one was at my soon-to-be brother in-law's bachelor party.

Kind of feel like I'm missing out on something but very rarely and the risk of becoming an alcoholic (Yes, I believe genetics plays a role in addiction) far outweigh the rewards of feeling good, especially when I feel good all the time anyway.

Well, it's really not sex, so it's not the same sin, whereas stealing is still stealing no matter the item. I do get where you're coming from, though.

Spilling seed is spilling seed, whether by yourself or with a partner. In both cases is it is sexual gratification without the possibility of procreation, and according to Aquinas, equal in severity.
