I just started a new church, it believes that Jesus is the son of god but the testament that was revealed to me, by Christ himself, is that taxes are a mortal sin. I don’t have the pay them. I build A church for Christ’s return and my tax is a tithe to the church. The amount is between me and Christ. Paying taxes is a sin and against my religion.

Do the courts get to decide whether my beliefs are real, religious and in good faith? Or does my statement under oath or affirmation satisfy and I am removed from paying taxes?

You still have to pay taxes because tax laws are applicable to everyone, they don't target religion specifically. It's a "neutral law of general applicability."

Your church wouldn't get taxed, but you, as an individual, still would.

So, you just have any earnings put into the church and withdraw funds from the church, and then claim that you made $0 as an individual.

Seems like the town is going to have a hard time proving that religious liberty trumps discrimination when the one Christian guy cannot leave his house to his Jewish wife or his dual-religion kids when he dies.

Having visited Petoskey a few times, I always assumed Bayview was a private cluster of homes, not a real town. I definitely recall "local residents only" signs off U.S. 31 to dissuade traffic from turning onto its streets.

Beautiful area, but as that article points out, tons of historic and not-so-historic baggage.
