The wedding cake case

This is logical. But the Republican party position that right wing heretical Christianity trumps all other religions will win the case. This country would benefit from an actual persecution of Christians. Then we'd see who really believes in their faith. My guess is the evangelicals would be the first to welcome their new Godless overlords.

Let me just be the first to say it: Wow.

This is venturing into Starman territory.

It's a hypothetical to illustrate that in my opinion right wing Christians (not all evangelicals, I regret the error) are power worshipers and don't give a damn about actual Christianity.

Buffet Christianity, does the wedding cake maker do wedding cakes for divorced couples? Adulterers? Catholics? How do these Christians get to choose which parts of the faith they will prescribe to? Which prayers do they find acceptable for public school? Luke 3:11

Abortion and homosexuality are sins, but they are the same level of sin as theft, adultery, gluttony, greed and hubris. You’re either religious and live it completely, or you are a phony using religion as a cover for your bigoted stupidity.

Since religious liberty is considered paramount by certain conservatives, I wonder what they would say if a woman and a doctor said that their religion believes abortion is OK and that laws banning abortion were denying them their religious liberty.

Would that work for, say, human sacrifice?

Question for those who have paid more attention to the arguments than I: Is the baker's lawyer arguing this primarily on grounds of religious freedom, free speech (or, rather, compelled speech), or both?

Speech. Exclusively, I think.

Both, although focusing more on Free Speech Clause than Free Exercise Clause.

It’s a freedom of speech case.

Kinda/sorta. The argument basically goes: "I make general food art for everybody over here, but then I have patron food art over here, and I can choose which commissions I want and I don't want to fulfill as the artist."

It's moronic, but whatever. Maybe it works. Quite the Christian witness, appealing for food prep rights in the biggest court of the land. We're really suffering for the cause.

If a couple of Muslim guys wanted for a cake emblazoned with the Shahada -- "There is no god but God. Muhammad is the messenger of God." -- and the guy refused to the point of seeking judicial relief, I presume his Christian witness would similarly be suspect?

I don't follow. What laws banning abortions?

So you want the courts deciding whether you're a good Christian?

Can't wait to roll into Ahmad's Bakery and order a cake with a cartoon depiction of Muhammad on it.

Is tolerating sin in others a sin?
