A group of robbers stormed into a German hotel during a poker tournament and made off with about $1.1 million worth of prize money. The robbers had machetes, assault weapons and hand grenades. The tournament was being televised and some of the robbery was caught by the cameras.
Once they were gone, however, the tournament continued. You can't keep a degenerate gambler down, I suppose.

And a slightly more detailed version of the story, with some video of the robbery:

At least James Coburn had the decency to wait until after the tournament to steal the prize money in the film version of "Maverick."

Check out some of Doyle Brunson's or Amarillo Slim's stories of playing high stakes cash games in Texas, Oklahoma and other places back in the 50s and 60s. The occasional hold up was just part of the biz. Sometimes it was the cops that did it. That's why you never had your whole bank roll out that way you could continue playing once the robbery was finished.
