As Scieza posted, the easy NY/NJ pick is Jay Z.
For one, "Empire State of Mind" has replaced "New York, New York" as the song of the city.
He has Alicia Keys - a fellow New Yorker - sing with him as he opens with Hard Knock Life where instead of a DJ, he has the Roots playing with him, a la, his unpplugged album.
They bring out whoever the knew hot artist is to sing, then Jay Z goes to his catalog before closing with Empire State of Mind.
It wouldn't top Prince, but it would be one of the best ever.
