Most people seemed to hate the Blacked-Eyed Peas Tron-like, sound-board challenged performance at the SB halftime. Some liked it. Go figure.

With the Super Bowl next year in Indianapolis, who will be the halftime peformer?

I'm thinking Indiana's own li'l Johnny Mellencamp might be tapped.

I think Mellencamp would be a better pick to do the anthem or America the Beautiful than halftime.

I don't think he's on that level anymore.

Why can't they do an actual band, not a hip-hop artist, group, or R&B singer. And I don't mean a band that has members that are 50 or over. What's wrong, with say, Green Day?

I think the list of performers that are big enough and have enough broad appeal to do a halftime show is a short one, and unfortunately a lot of the singers/bands on that list are in their 60s.

I would think Green Day would be on that list.

Not on the level of the musically-challenged Black Eyed Peas?

That one's gonna leave a mark.

We're talking popularity, not talent.

I don't know why the NFL would choose Mellencamp for next year's game simply because he's regional. The league didn't choose any musicians from Texas (and there are many, many from which to choose) for the anthem or halftime for yesterday's game. Kinda chapped me when I saw who was singing the anthem, even before she screwed it up, that a Texas singer wasn't chosen for that.

OK, rant over.

Willie Nelson would've sounded better even if clouds of Acupulco Gold were rising from his throat.

Good point. George Strait would have been a really good halftime show.

I'd be for getting rid of the halftime act altogether, but we know that will never happen.

I agree. They trump the halftime show and commercials so much that folks probably feel like they have to wait till the games on to use the bathroom.

I like the Blackeyed Peas and I didn't even look at the TV until I heard "Sweet Child O'Mine" being played. I can't ever think of a halftime show that I felt like I "had to see".

The only one I cared about was Springsteen. Thought that turned out pretty well.

The halftime shows and commercials are hypes so much that they are all anyone talks about.

Though if Pittsburgh had won, I bet a lot of folks would be ragging on the Packers' butter-fingered receivers.

Why would you?

It's three songs performed by a person or group you likely have seen perform those three songs any number of times. Can't imagine what, short of a planned wardrobe malfunction, would ever make it "must see".

I liked it several years ago when I was able to flip over to MTV to watch Beavis and Butthead during halftime.

Only ones in last 10 years I've really looked forward to were Petty and Springsteen -- you wonder which songs they'll choose. It's like any other live performance, just with the largest audience you could ask for.

Not quite, because obviously it's a temporary set and a slap-dash sound setup, judging by last night.

The NFL is a league run by a commissioner who thinks the Rolling Stones, who are older than me by a good margin, and have been playing longer than said commissioner has been breathing, have lyrics too risque for the 21st century. When it comes to music, the NFL loves lame, and when it comes to choosing singers, I doubt there's much more involved than whatever mass media conglomerate handling the broadcast naming singers from one of their sound recording companies that could use a career boost.
