SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -- Carolina Panthers All-Pro receiver Steve Smith was carted off the field Saturday with a hamstring injury on the opening day of training camp.

Midway through the afternoon session, Smith pulled up while running a long route down the left sideline. He immediately clutched his left hamstring, took a couple of steps and fell to the ground.

Two trainers came to his side, and new teammate Keyshawn Johnson also came over to check on Smith, who slowly got to his feet after about a minute. He threw his gloves in anger, got onto the back of the cart and was brought inside.

This could be one of them things that lingers?!

As significant a non-QB injury that could happen to a team.

20 minutes after they reported this news on sirius, they backpedaled saying it was just a minor hamstring pull.

No such thing for a player such as Smith.

First day of practice and they carted him off?
Tap's right. This is a big injury.

The fact that he got so angry has me worried. Usually when you know it may be bad you get real pissed. Too early to tell tho. He could be fine.

But it's Steve Smith. He gets angry at everything.

Crossing fingers. Usually Ritalin Child gets angry at everything, so his reaction to this injury is a poor gauge of its severity.

(I hope ... :-\)

I hope it is cause they are one of the sleeper teams to win the Super Bowl.

True, if you "slept" through last season and every Sportscenter and NFL Tonight this year.

Keep overlooking the Seahawks...

I swear it is 1993 all over again, just the conferences have flipped.

Seattle is probably the best of an awful conference.

Boy, Steve Smith and the early part of training camp just don't get along. Neither for that matter do Steve Smith and Ken Lucas. This time, Smith causes Lucas to be carted off:

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Carolina Panthers receiver Steve Smith was sent home from training camp Friday after he punched teammate Ken Lucas during practice, causing the starting cornerback to be carted off the field holding an ice pack to his left eye.
