Is there a distinct size or speed problem with this kid that might turn off big schools? If he's really a good student, he ought to try the Ivies.

Just thought I'd mention it for those of you around the Keystone State.

Steel-High's Jeremiah Young broke the Pennsylvania career rushing record today in the District 3-A finals. With 138 yards against Camp Hill, he reached 8,506.

Previous record of 8,432 was established by James Mungro of East Stroudsburg (later with Syracuse and the Indy Colts) in 1995.

Young still does not have a solid FBS offer, by the way.

In case you missed it, PA's single-season TD record, previously held by Austin Scott, was shattered by Schuylkill Haven's Zach Barket the previous week.

He scored four touchdowns in last night's 43-0 win over Philadelphia Communications Tech and now has 61.

BTW, he's only a few dozen yards away from Scott's single-season rushing record of 3,846.

Barket's having one unbelievable season. I think the lowest he's been held to has been 208 yards.

Would love to see Haven get through another game and see Steel-High in two weeks. Barket vs. Young would be worth price of admission.

He's a bit on the skinny side, but I can't figure out why no offers. Get him in a good program, redshirt him, have him live in the weight room and that problem could easily be fixed.

He's bulked up a bit, too. Solid 190 now, and that's not terrible for a speed back.

IIRC correctly, Peyton Manning played at a 2A or 3A school in New Orleans, as well.

And on the other side of the coin, Terrell Owens played in the largest classification in Alabama and didn't get any big offers.

Mike Hart played at the smallest classification at Onondaga. He turned out okay.

And both he and the greatest running back ever (screw Emmitt; to me it's still Payton) played at a I-AA college. Granted, the times were different when Payton came along, but I don't think the powerhouses were beating down his door.

I saw two years of Eugene Jarvis. Jeremiah Young has as much game as Jarvis. And he IS struggling to get an FBS offer.

Notepad, sometimes folks like you get too hung up on "AAAA" back against "A" back. It's common. A ballplayer is a ballplayer.

Agreed. And I just don't see the size concerns with this kid. It certainly isn't as much of an issue as it was with Jarvis.

I simply do not feel Young is a Division I back.
He is a product of playing at a small school. Put him in a big WPIAL school (Central Catholic, Woodland Hills, Gateway) and he might have half the career yards.

Some of the people mentioned above - such as Pryor - have skills that transcend any level. That said, Pryor would have been the best player on the field, at any level, in any game, in Pennsylvania last season.

IMHO, Young would not be the best back in many Class AAAA games, especially if he had to play WPIAL competition.

I am not making a "he's not good because he's a small school running back" claim. Instead, I am saying that he is not good because his talent and skill set would not transcend the bigger levels of PA high school football.
