Staff Writer/Sports Writer
The Springfield Sun is seeking a staff writer/sports writer for its 3,600 circulation weekly newspaper located in Washington County in central Kentucky, 45 minutes from Louisville and Lexington. This person will write stories for the news and sports page and cover assigned beats. This will include attending meetings and sporting events, occasionally night and weekend assignments, and covering some spot news. This person will also take photographs (news, sports, features, business/community) as assigned and to accompany stories. A bachelor's degree in journalism or equivalent experience is preferred. Candidates should have good writing, researching and interviewing skills along with good grammar, spelling and punctuation skills. Competency in photography, electronic page design, InDesign and Photoshop is helpful. Knowledge of content management systems is a plus. The newspaper was awarded General Excellence in the Kentucky Press
Association's 2009 competition and consistently wins numerous press association
awards. Published each Wednesday, The Sun has been providing coverage to the
community since 1892.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* A bachelor's degree in journalism or equivalent experience is preferred.
* Candidates should have good writing, researching and interviewing skills
along with good grammar, spelling and punctuation skills.
* Competency in photography, electronic page design, InDesign and Photoshop
is helpful.
* Knowledge of content management systems is a plus.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* This person will write stories for the news and sports page and cover assigned
beats. This will include attending meetings and sporting events, occasionally
night and weekend assignments, and covering some spot news.

* Candidates must have a vehicle to travel to assignments along with a valid
driver's license and proof of insurance.
This position is 40 hours per week.
