Couple months ago, I got a phone call from a firm touting satellite dishes. I'm on the Do not call list and had been getting a bunch and it pissed me off.
So I waited until the end, listened for the name of the company and number, as well as looking at it on the caller id.
I filled out the form on the FCC website and that's it -- until yesterday, when I received a copy of their complaint against the owner of the company who was informed he was being fined up to $11,000 and had 30 days to file an appeal the nearest office to his location in Minot, N.D.
Now, am sure he's going to bail and change company names before then, but it's nice to know that while I might not have shut him down, at least I caused him grief.

Re: Slappy 1, Telemarkers 0

I salute you, sir. It's dicks of the world like you that make society tolerable for the rest of us.

And your name came up a couple of times this weekend during my trip to New Orleans.

Re: Slappy 1, Telemarkers 0

Problem is you put yourself on the TELEMARKERS do not call list and the TELEMARKETERS didn't get word.
So fix that and they'll leave you alone.

I put myself on several of those lists and I get more calls than ever. Magazine sales and police organizations are the worst.

Are telemarkers what John Madden uses?

Re: Slappy 1, Telemarkers 0

If you kill a telemarketing company, it invariably goes into the books as "justifiable homicide."

For being a **** or being tolerable...

State softball is in two weekends and I've met both of your replacements... it's going to be a long weekend with those two, Biggins and the TV geekette from Huntsville who wants everyone to carry her equipment for het...

Scene from Seinfeld (doing this from memory):

Phone rings.

Jerry: Hello

Telemarketer on the other end.

Jerry: You've reached me at a bad time. Can I call you later?

Telemarketer on the other end.

Jerry: Oh, so you don't want to be bothered at home?

Telemarketer on the other end.

Jerry: Now you know how I feel.

Jerry hangs up phone.

Bravo. The last horse finally crosses the finish line. :P

I noticed that we got more cop calls AFTER the do not call list signup.

We get a lot of calls now, actually. More than ever. Auto warranty companies, vinyl siding installation companies, timeshare companies. Thing is, I can't get a name or number.

Correct if this is wrong, but aren't cop calls not covered by Do Not Call, since it is benefitting a charity?

I was getting that auto warranty recorded call on my mobile phone, which really pissed me off. So I waited for the human to come on, and said never to call me, and that they're screwed because they used a recording. I did some research and found the company it came from and reported them to the FCC. I got a letter from the FCC thanking me and saying they're on it.

Correct.

I know that after I donated to one policeman's organization a few years back I began getting calls from every related charity in the world -- more police, firefighters, paralyzed veterans, Coast Guard youth auxiliary (quick, what movie is that from?).

So I've just stopped donating as a result. Those asshole cops can thank themselves for passing my phone number out.

One of my roommates and I would always F with telemarketers when they called during college. The most common one was, after the telemarketer asked to speak with one of us, "No, he's at the club tonight. He'll be strippin' till around 2 o'clock in the morning." Threw them off every time.
