If Jeff Gordon were to somehow win the Sprint Cup title, he should get some consideration. He wouldn't, but he should.

Curry and Messi are the class of the field, but I could live with anyone but the Royals. Speaking as a two-time winner of Time's Person of the Year, I hate it when awards like this are cheapened by giving it to a group.

Curry had a magnificent season, but somebody wins NBA MVP every year. First Triple Crown in 37 years. Speith has become one of golf's historic figures at age 22. New Tiger and all that. Serena has the best year of her all-time historic career. Through its history, SI has generally gone one of two ways for this award. 1. A truly amazing one-off feat (Michael Phelps, Bumgardner last year, the 1980 Olympic hockey team, etc. 2. Lifetime achievement award, John Wooden, Jack Nicklaus, etc. Pharoah would be a 1, and Serena a 2. Curry kind of falls between those poles.

I noticed Thomas Davis is on the list for a season in which he received zero All-Pro votes. I would love for it to be him so the NFL's "See? Not Everybody In Our League Is a Criminal ****head!" campaign can be completely exposed. Maybe they can direct the money they get from the DOD toward SI's advertising department.

The point I'm making is you could easily slide Bird to the bench to make a spot for Curry. He's been that good.
